Swans reserves to join VFL as a stand alone outfit

According to the Coodabeens on ABC radio this morning, the VFL Footy record claims that the Swans are to be included in the VFL as a stand alone outfit.

I think it is about time that this happened.

Has anyone seen the article and can shine some light on the details?

If this is true, it's the best news I've heard about the Swans in quite a while. Fingers crossed its not just a gee-up.

    I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

Would be an interesting move, a few of the Victorian clubs are breaking their affliations to stand their own teams as well.

    Here's this week's record

    http://vfl.footballvic.com.au/_conte...055962-src.pdf

A small paragraph on page 3

    AFL Victoria has also received
    interest from the Sydney Swans
? whose fi ve-year contract with
AFL NSW/ACT has ended ? about
fi elding a stand-alone team in the
    TRUenergy VFL.
But as far as I'm aware, I think the Swans signed a new deal with AFL Canberra this year.

I hope they get out of that U-10 comp and stay away from it for a very long time. Ressies for VFL!
I only support one team: The SYDNEY SWANS!!!!!

would be a good first step on getting on the right track to actually having some depth in the list and developing some quality young players.

To add further light to this, the Kangaroos broke their affliation with Tasmania and Carlton & Collingwood are close to breaking their affliations with the Bullants and Williamstown respectively. Could be a lot of teams next year in the VFL?

really really stupid backwards move. not the swans fault but the afl.

the reserves should be part of a strong comp in our part of the world and be used as part of a platform for national expansion. put us in the queensland comp for now but with a view of eventually having a two-conference comp of

    1. swans reserves, two other sydney teams, two canberra teams, newcastle and wollongong

    2. queensland comp with brisbane reserves, southport (perhaps reserves if they enter the afl), perhaps kangaroos reserves if they make the move, cairns, another gold-coast team.

instead of buying real estate and shares, the afl could easily fund the necessary plane fares and invest in some real growth in the code.
