Thread: Pre-match Entertainment

    Pre-match Entertainment

Was pretty bad. People swinging around with poles up their arses in some sort of bizarre testament to 'Vlad the Impaler' while Powderfinger pay homage to ACDC. Then the Premiership cup arrives sliding down a rope with sparklers tied to it.

I was fervently hoping something would go wrong so that I could at least guffaw, but alas was just left with my mouth hanging open. Back to the fridge for another beer.
He had observed that people who did lie were, on the whole, more resourceful and ambitious and successful than people who did not lie.

I have been to every Grand Final since 1996 and this is the worst pre-match entertainment that I have seen.

Does anyone know who the girls were that were singing on top of the scroreboard?

They really should just stick to bands playing in the middle of the ground. The best part was Powderfinger.

Also it would have been nice if they had names on the cars for the retiring players...being high up I couldn't see which one was Mathews!

The "Wolfgramm Sisters" - I only know because they also sang on the "Marngrook Footy Show" and it was mentioned they would also be at the "G".

Incidentally the MGFS had appearances from Derek Kickett, Robbie Ahmat (looking very smooth), Troy Cook, O'Loughlin & Goodes (plus many other indigenous players from other clubs). MOL got runner-up in the Indigenous Mark of the Year.

Wouldn't that be the one that's going sideways or backwards...any way but forward?

FWIW I reckon they should do away with the pre-match entertainment and bring back the other (VFL?) finals such as the under 18s etc. I didn't take any notice of the entertainment at the '05 or '06 GFs

Worse than Kath & Kim in 2004 & Dame Edna in 2005? Nowhere near as cringeworthy as that. I recall being decidedly as an AFL fan in Sydney getting SMSs from NRL fans fans giving me @@@@ about our "GAYFL pre-match entertainment living up to its name"

Does anyone really need pre-match entertainment anyway? Isn't that just to placate the noobs & NARF corporate who want something to titter over whilst sampling hors d'oeuvres and champers.

PS:- Watch the NRL's on Sunday. They generally do a great job at pre-matches. No camp performers mincing around, but real watchable stuff like bands fireworks etc etc

To restore any credibility, the AFL has to bring back the Batmobile.
I only support one team: The SYDNEY SWANS!!!!!

They've had the advantage of being at night for a while though. It makes a big difference being able to have it in that sort of setting. Given that with the NRL game starting @ 5pm this year it'll be interesting to see how it looks. That said Nine's coverage to Melb. only starts @ 4.30pm so you won't see too much of it.

EDIT: And just looking at Sydneys coverage they are squeezing in the News @ 4 - 4.30pm so I don't know how much we'll see of it either.

    Red face

Talking of all things pre-game, did anyone see Geelong's Grand Final banner on Saturday? It would have to rate as one of the WORST GF banners I have EVER seen, if not the worst. Maybe Geelong's Cheer Squad thought their players were too good to have a decent banner on the biggest day of the year. I swear it looked like a normal banners you'd see every Saturday. No decent lettering pictures or artwork or anything.

    PATHETIC GEELONG CHEER SQUAD!!! :thumbsd:

Wasn't it a couple of years ago when the NRL had a big name old rocker (sorry dementia setting in and ca't remember who) arriving in the hovercraft and it all went pear-shaped as the craft failed to hover and the sound went kapput? That was the best pre-match entertainment I've seen in a long time.
