Apparently Power from the Lions wants a 2 year contract, Lions only offering 1 year. Turns 31 in January but you'd think he would have 2 years left in him. Wouldn't be a bad pick up
My Man Mumford!
Not sure he'd add anything to the team that we are overly lacking. His days as a quasi-onballer are probably past him and he'd be filling a role that we hope Rohan, Ves etc will grow into.
Other than the need to keep adding quality at the young end of the list, the most obvious weakness is a lack of depth in the key position roles, notwithstanding Johnston and Reid waiting in the wings. Roos has frequently commented that part of the key to the rejuvenation of players from other clubs has been to a) recruit for a specific role and b) guarantee that they will at least start the season in the best 22. Unless an absolutely dominant KPP falls into our lap, it is hard to see where there is room to guarantee a starting spot. We really need someone wiling to come to the club as depth. As such, I'd have thought that a mature player in one of the second tier leagues makes more sense - maybe even an ex-Swan, like Faulks or Rowe who both seem to be doing well in the VFL/SANFL.
We have to hope that Jesse grows into his role. But he may not. And we'll only get limited games from Braddy. Do we need to trade or develop a tall forward? Pyke would be a possibility but it'd be a big ask, though finding him another position might be necessary if we are to fit him, Mummy and Seaby in our best 22 in 2011.
Rather than being like some other clubs who trade players in seemingly just to bolster numbers (Carlton for instance), the Swans are the most successful club at trading in players as we always look to fill a weakness in our side and as Roos has said, they are always recruited with the aim of being in our starting 22.
Impediments to trading in players are
Are you an attractive club to join? coaches, facilities, location, future season success - think after this season we are on all counts
Can you fit them into your Salary Cap? - we didn't use the safe haven of Veterans Outside the List this year so assume we can
Can you get a trade deal done with their current club? Hmmm, if you don't hold any high draft choices or players you want to let go then there is a limit to who you can target
GC Suns are the big stumbling block this year and GWS next year because they hold so many high draft choices and $ are no problem.
So this year it gets down to what we need and can we get the deal done. So what deficiencies do we have in our side, assuming full fitness? Certainly not in the back half where KP and flankers are fully loaded. Rucks are full. Midfield we still need pace away from the stoppages so thats one area. Forward line is a bit of a mash really and very much depends on Bradshaws fitness and whether White, Reid or Johnston can step up. What are your thoughts?
Despite not being the best in the league, I want to keep Jesse. He may not be a quick learner, but he obviously loves playing as a Swan, he has worked, parts of his game have improved a lot, and some have not; work in progress perhaps, but I think we would be daft to ditch him at this stage. Once Braddy goes, he will come into his own, after a lot of mentoring and a lot of practice. Look at LRT for precedent.
Reid is more of a backman, and a big one at that. He has great hands.
LJ is to me a forward. He is big, he is learning, he is getting better. He has a way to go. B ut at times he has shown where he can go.
Cheese, what on earth do we do with Cheese; perhaps they will shop him, perhaps he wants to stay a great deal and now the coaches have him over a barrell. You know, "you are this close to being dropped for good, so what are you going to do about it". Injury has stuffed him this year, but the last time I saw him play out at ANZ before he did his hammy I was pleasantly surprised at his more team oriented approach and commentated on it at the time.
Cuz, don't know. I really don't know. How long can you be a work in progress?
Uncle B will either break through or not. When he is good he is brilliant, when he is not you hardly notice he is on the ground. Wait on that one.
McKaigue (Irish import) may well prove to be a keeper. He appears to love bash and crash, has learned a heap in a small period of time, has improved a great deal, and I like him. Not love mind you, but I do like him.
McNeill and Gordon are part of our future (at least I hope Dill is, he is a quick thinker). Dill can marshall and goal, Nipper can move and goal.
I can't imagine they would shop any of these guys, but then again I was horrified when they started to shop Bolton.....a little less sterility in the trade would be appreciated gentlemen! Dunno, lets see what Stuey and co have in store for us.

If you've never jumped from one couch to the other to save yourself from lava then you didn't have a childhood
Do we need to mention Roos/Horse in the coaching staff changes or did I miss something?
I really like Nathan Djerrkura ever since I saw a tv piece on his background. I also once had him in a fantasy team but unfortunately he was only filling in. Other than that I can't add anything much to the debate but would still love him at the Swans.
Throwing up some possible names as that key tall that Roosy reckons we need.
James Sellar (Adelaide) - 21years old. Gun forward as junior. At AFL level thus far, he does not have a good record having kicked just 3 goals in 16 games. However, Adelaide have tended to use him as a backup ruckman rather than as a key forward. A bit like Jesse White, at 196 cm he's a little too short to be effective in this role. Depending on the price (3rd rounder perhaps and/or fringe player like Barlow/MOD), could be worth a punt.
John Anthony (Collingwood) - On the fringes of the strong Collingwood side. Junior backman who was thrown up forward with great success. Noted for his goalkicking accuracy (80.36) but at the same time has question marks over his agility and whether he's a one-trick pony (even if that trick is very good ). I don't think the asking price would be cheap either (not knowing his contract status)
Mitch Brown (West Coast) - Drafted as a forward but this year has spent more time in the backline for the Weagles. Struggles in this role in the wrestling and body-to-body contests, but perhaps would do better as a lead up forward with his athleticism.
Brad Miller (delisted) - GC are reportedly after him and he is a bit older than some of the others mentioned here (27 years). Has the size but maybe not the kicking skills.
Sam Rowe (Norwood SANFL) - One of our former rookies, has really blossomed at SANFL level. 4th in the SANFL goalkicking list. Athletic tall (198cm), strong marking, mobile forward who competes well at ground level too. As an added bonus can also play in defence.
Mitch Thorp (Werribee VFL) - Can't say I've followed him this year but his name has popped up a few times over at BF. High draft pick in that so-called 2006 SuperDraft.
Just some names for discussion, I'm sure that there'll be a lot of raised eyebrows and shakes of the head.
