    Mid Season Trade Period

This may have been canvased here before but after hearing this discussed last night wondering what people think of the idea.

Obviously you couldnt have a draft as ripping young kids out of teams and all that a draft would entail would be a logistics nightmare.

But a trade period strictly for clubs to trade players that arent getting a game and for clubs that have been cruelled by injury to try to bolster their second half of the season would be a fantastic idea in my opinion.

A side like Richmond for example could be able to get a ruckman like Maric from the crows who cant get a game but would be invaluable for the tiges.

We could also scour the AFL for a forward who's not getting a game because he has a gun forward line stopping him from getting a game, what do you all think?

Why would any team voluntarily help out another team mid-season?

As much as we need a forward now midseason trade is not going to be the way to go, what happens if you trade that third or fourth ruckman midseason then two weeks later have your number one go down to injury and the number two to suspension?

A teams attention midseason should be on the games ahead not trade issues

How do you structure contracts to factor in midseason trades?

Im obviously not talking about this year and was talking about all teams in general the tiges and swans examples were exactly that examples.

Teams wouldnt be helping out other teams they'd be helping the player to further his career and they'd get either a player they needed in return or draft picks in the next draft obviously it would be vague and youd have to say well you can have our first pick were ever it ends up beingt or similiar.

Also clubs would be given an extra bonus salary cap at mid season which could be used to either bolster improving players contracts so as to keep them or similiar,or they could use it to attract players of which the player would stay for the first half year on the money he was on elsewhere and you just have to pay out that contract.

Noone would be doing anyone any favours at all, except the players getting more chances, clubs would all be in the position sooner or later that injury would hit them so if they had stopped a ressies player going elsewhere before well they probably limit their chances of clubs helpingf them out.

It would be a massive benefit to all clubs and the game itself.

Clubs used to give out players on loan in the late sixties and seventies, would you rather see that adopted,a guy who is still listed at your club beating you on the ground for another side?

It's not a totally foreign concept.

We used to have a mid-season draft, it's how we recruited Daryn Cresswell.

I'm not sure however if you could draft somebody on a list or whether they had to come from outside the system.
