ON THE eve of the next great challenge in AFL, John Longmire has revealed the even greater challenge his mother, Christine, is facing.
Longmire will debut as an AFL coach today when the Swans play Melbourne at the MCG. In the back of his mind will be the health of his brave mother in Corowa, the NSW-Victoria border town where Christine and Fred Longmire gave their kids an idyllic rural upbringing.
Christine's cancer has recently returned. Her stoicism is a quality Paul Roos's former understudy has vowed to emulate as he begins his career as a senior coach.
