Thread: Stat magnets

    Stat magnets

Our AFL superstars up the top of the stats are:

    Malceski #2 in kicks
    Malceski #1 in rebound 50s
    Jack #2 in tackles
Mumford #1 in frees against (new ruck rules?)
    Kenndy #1 in contested possessions
    Kennedy #2 in clearances
    Pyke #1 in contested marks
Ted Richards #1 for time on ground
Heath Grundy #3 for time on ground.

So we are a team which excels at contested footy, tackling, rebounding and keeping our backline together - sounds about right to me.

Ted and Reg must but 2 very fit footballers because there is one stat you haven't shown: we would be very high in the rankings for forward 50's against.

The underused stat, R50 + I50 combined. Tally them and tell me who the leader is and how far ahead he is of the others

Number one at the Swans or in the league?

At the Swans it would be between Malceski and McVeigh - I am guessing probably McVeigh. I imagine he'd be reasonably high up in the league totals.

I've just gone and cheated. But I'll let others guess.

You have to bear in mind, though, that any Swan who has high rebounds from 50 has to be significantly discounted because we concede a relatively high number of inside 50s. Just like JPK's clearance stats need to be discounted because we have a high number of stoppages.

Even with his time out I think Shaw would be one, and I'd pick Nic Mal for the other.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

To clarify, I meant this year and number 1 in the AFL (but probably not hard to guess it'll be a Swan since we are on a Swans forum after all).

Even expressed as a percentage of the team's totals, he's still signficantly in front of the rest of the pack
    I50s + R50s as % of team total
    • Nick Malceski 13.20%
    • Jed Adcock 9.06%
    • Richard Douglas 9.02%
    • Andrew Walker 9.00%
    • Dane Swan 8.97%

Might also have to keep an eye out for Tricky Dicky Douglas this week.
