If what we saw last night is a sign of things to come, then bring it on!

It took me till Rd 22 in 2012 (when we lost to Hawthorn in that cracker at the SCG) to think we were truly good enough to win the flag that year. Last night was enough for me - if we can maintain a good list injury wise, and keep the attack and fanatacism at the ball like we had last night, its going to take an almighty fine team to stop us in September. footy is a funny game that changes week by week, but what we saw last night was absolutely outstanding! After living through some dark times, the last decade of the Swans has seen us spoilt big time, and this year I feel is only going to get better!

There was a real system about it. One player would execute a pressure act, and then the next followed up with another, and then the next until possession was regained. And for four quarters with almost no let up. The ruthlessness was quite startling.
Absolutely on the money. They were methodical and clean. It wasn't like the feral Freo attack of the Prelim last year. What the boys did last night looks sustainable, as it seemed based on technique (those hands) and clear decision making rather than juiced up mania. Our mids won the game by getting consistent first use and moving the ball well. Kennedy was extraordinary, as was Bird. And when you see Parker, McVeigh and Jack lining up at half-forward you realise how deep the midfield stocks are.

Yes . . . I thought the crowd felt very low energy in the first quarter. KT's opening miss took a bit of wind out of the sails of those around me; took a while to warm everyone up. I kept thinking about the big leads we have let go (Geelong, Hawthorn closing rounds 2012), wondering whether the points were going to cost us. But we were never threatened, so the crowd adrenalin became celebratory rather than anxious. An interesting experience as the fourth quarter procession unfolded.

Watching the replay, dear God I hate this commentary team.

Speaking of hate, the Chris Scott post-game press conference was a disgrace. Completely ungracious and arrogant considering his team just got handed a football lesson.

35,000 at Hawks game at ANZ
37,000 at Geelong game at SCG.

Nice crowds, but still too low. I suspect they will ramp up through the year as we gather bandwagoners.

Would be nice to crack 45K at the SCG, and get over 50K at ANZ (I think we only have Richmond left out there).

That's because most of them were still outside the ground then... I made it to my seat just as the teams ran out but there were still plenty of people coming in well into the first quarter, awful Sydney traffic on a weeknight. I thought the crowd was fantastic last night once everyone made it inside the ground!

You've had all morning to spin the numbers and this is the best you can do?

    5/10 - can do better

Here's a useful bit of information from an AFL article that serves well in debunking all the COLA/Big money crap:

"Critics will point to the Swans' salary cap concessions and say it's only natural they have assembled such talent.

But that would be to undermine the recruiting strategy of the club, including taking Hannebery, Malceski, Reid, Parker, Grundy and Rampe low in the draft or in rookie drafts, when all others passed them over.

They also nabbed Kennedy, Shaw, Richards and McGlynn from other clubs and helped them produce their best football."

That's 10 players alone and don't forget how ridiculed we were for recruiting Pyke, who no-one else would have been interested in either. Talk about a pack of sooky la la's.

I noticed the same thing. The ground looked half empty in the first quarter. I thought many might have assumed the normal 7:40 start.
