With half a dozen girls to himself, perhaps that's what he was trying to do

Rather than start a new thread, thought I'd just post my question here:

Anyone got their membership pack yet? Thought they were being sent out first week January but I haven't seen mine.

The email I got from the membership department said that cards would be mailed in January. No mention of "first week of January". So still a week or so to go before they are late.

Wow. Where on earth did you find this? Do you know what year it is and who is in it? Looks like the 40's, maybe 50's.

The year was 1953 and it was published in the now defunct but highly respected newspaper, "The Argus", which was known for its technical advancement.(To print in colour in those days was extraordinary). The two players are Jim Taylor (left, my Dad) and Don Scott (whom I was named after the following year).Of course, also playing at the time was Ron "Smokey" Clegg, who wasn't named "Smokey" for nothing.

I remember as a kid on a Friday night Dad take us to Smokey's house and play cards until about 3 in the morning with Jack Dyer and Mopsy Fraser. It was a very smokey affair.

My father also went on to become Victoria's first "Marlboro Man" (shooting a rifle at a target, this was even before they rode horses in the ads) in the early 1960s. He died in 2000, as did a number of the Marlboro men, from lung cancer.

I hope Dane doesn't follow the same path.My father could not give up once he was hooked, and the all pervasiveness of smoking did not help either, especially when he was paid to do ads like this one.

Awesome story. Thanks Scottee. It's great that you have at least one momento. My grandfather played but all we have is his 1918 team photo. We don't even have his premiership medallion. He pawned it because he needed the money.

    Wow! That's impress Scottee & S.S. Bleeder!

Makes me wonder, who else in the RWO community are related to Swans players?

Who was your grand father S.S.?
