OUT Shaw Rampe Towers Goodes
IN Jones Marsh Heeney Reid
Early weather forecast says 80% chance of showers. Hopefully this changes by Saturday!
What I think should happen:
Out: Goodes, Towers, Shaw, Cunningham
In: Reid, Heeney, McGlynn, Jones
What I think will happen:
Out: Towers, Goodes
In: Reid, Heeney
The one player I would like to see come into the side is Dan Robinson. He's got a good all around game, not dissimilar to Jake Lloyd. He can play both inside and outside and has played well as a tagger when asked. I think if we bring him through in the way we did Lloyd last year we won't be disappointed. One of the objectives in player changes should be to improve the overall skill level of the team. If we can't muster together a side that can hit targets consistently we will have little chance of overtaking Hawthorn.
We saw a bit of Zak Jones last year and he performed okay. He doesn't have the polish of a Robinson or Heeney, but he's a hard runner and a good tackler.
With Mitchell likely (and deserving) to keep his spot, we need to get more Inside 50s and goal kicking opportunities from Parker and Bird. Both are good users of the ball and proven goal kickers. Robinson can play that Bird type tagging role and let the Bird out of the cage. He's been good when he's been give freedom and often finds himself in damaging position, and can deliver.
Isn't Robinson a small forward/midfielder type? I really don't think those are our problem areas.
Our main issue is half back/defence. As I said in the other thread I really hope Melican, Aliir and Newman show something because that's where we were exposed yesterday.
He's an alternative to Goodes, Towers, Cunningham and McGlynn. Just another option. And can fill a role that will allow others to play back, e.g. McVeigh.
Hopefully Melican and Aliir will play reserves next week. I doubt Melican will be ready for senior footy this year. Newman might be. Davis has the size to play KPP, but not sure about fitness and other factors, but looks okay so far and was in the bests list this week.
Several people are calling for McGlynn to be recalled (and as a McGlynn fan I am not necessarily disputing this). But he was not named in the six best players for the Reserves on Saturday. Is he ready yet for a recall?

If we can afford to give Adam another game, that would be good. Perhaps he'll be better for the run, bolstered by the couple of goals. I feel that if he is dropped again now, it will only be injuries that sees him come back. I'd like to see him have a little run of games, to give him a chance of proving he should still be in the team. Two goals, twelve possessions on Saturday - push that up to 2.5 goals, 16-18 possessions a game then he's worth his place in the team.
My changes:
OUT: Towers, Cunningham
IN: Reid, Heeney
I'd like to see if Towers can dominate for the reserves. I doubt that he can/will, but let's see.
