Good news with Rhyce Shaw joining the Suns as a development coach

Indeed! I was about to post the same news from afl.com.au: Former Roos coach Rhyce Shaw lands new gig up north (afl.com.au). Best wishes Rhyce! I would have welcomed him back at the Swans but I guess there was no room at the inn.

Getting out of Melbourne again.....is the Melbourne AFL scene toxic for former footy players/coaches? Just askin'....

Some controversy over Shaw’s appointment, given the Suns sacked a whole bunch of development coaches last year including Nick Malceski who had a couple of years left on his contract.

Can only be those who are complaining, don't really know Rhys Shaw. He is fantastic in the development role and what he did for our young guys in the NEAFL and then in the seniors, was fantastic. It's a pity we don't have a slot as I would prefer Shaw to Laidlaw to look.after our VFL East Coast team and the Academy. Good luck with Suns, Rhys

The point is they made a whole bunch of coaches redundant and then appointed Shaw to the same role. Those who lost their jobs have a case for wrongful dismissal.

I personally value Rhys higher as a development coach than those coaches let go by the Suns. They would have the Coaches Association to go to if they have grievance.

That's unlikely to happen. Who knows on what terms they left. Surely there was some compensation involved.

    Happy for Rhyce.

The AFL just extended their TV rights. This alone might have changed the financial plight of the Suns such that they can employ again. So much uncertainty at the moment.

Very difficult to prove wrongful dismissal, esp in Qld jurisdiction.

Fox Footy has reported this is what our recent delistings are getting up to: Local footy, winemaking - and a ‘Rat Pack’ return? What every delisted and retired AFL player has planned for 2021 | Fox Sports

Zac Foot (delisted) – Casey Demons (VFL and East Coast Second-Tier Competition)Michael Knoll (delisted) – Norwood (SANFL)
Jack Maibaum (delisted) – Coburg (VFL and East Coast Second-Tier Competition)
Harry Reynolds (delisted) – Carlton (VFL and East Coast Second-Tier Competition)
Brady Rowles (delisted) – TBC, but linked to Mildura (Sunraysia FNL)
Ryley Stoddart (delisted) – Carlton (VFL and East Coast Second-Tier Competition)
Elijah Taylor (delisted) – TBC, but has been linked to Sandringham (VFL and East Coast Second-Tier Competition)
    Jackson Thurlow (delisted) – TBC

Carlton obviously keep a close eye on NSW because apart from previous Swans that have wound up there (Nic Newman and Jed Lamb, and now Reynolds and Stoddart, as well as Luke Parks from our Academy), they have also taken a raft of players from GWS (Caleb Marchbank, Will Setterfield, Matt Kennedy, Andrew Phillips, Liam Sumner and Lachie Plowman among those that come to mind).

Outstanding 3 part story on recently departed Swans legend Dennis Carroll on club's website. Very interesting and really well written.
