I was feeling quite positive at half time.

Other positives: tackling, Heeney set the tone early, a big "ooh-aah" from the crowd for that one. Rowbottom went OK again I thought. Sinclair gives it a crack every week but can't do it all alone. Mills better tonight too, also Reid and Papley.

In the end, well-beaten by the team that scored when they went forward, simple as that. When we go forward, you never quite know what's going to happen.

We are second to the ball, we are playing bruise free footy, we don't put our bodies on the line, we are hesitant, we aren't reading the flight of the ball coming into our forward line (Haines had 12 marks, most of them reading the play and intercepting) we are slow to react, flat footed, we don't look fit, our field kicking is horrible, we make poor disposal decisions and we have little or no forward pressure; we are no good.

Ronke, Melican, Clarke and Thurlow should not be in the side. Thurlow had 9 kicks, 1 effective, Florent had 9 kicks and none effective. We have gone from an inside tough team to an outside soft team. Of the hand full of centre clearances we had I reckon Sinclair had half of the them. An indictment on our mids.

We can't underestimate the loss of Grundy and Smith from the backline, but a lot of things have gone horribly wrong over night.

Agree with most of that. Stats suggest Sinclair had no clearances of any kind. Kennedy had 12 (4 centre clearances), Jones 6, Heeney and Hewett 5.

Swans actually won clearances. GWS won possession count, contested possessions, tackes and tackles inside 50, and had far fewer turnovers.

There are definitely arguments either way for sure but gws 11 to 7 first round picks is massively superior

4 extra first round picks that are truly in the right age group now is head and shoulders above us in talent

To go evens just as a minimum with a ruckman is a must - it is killing us. Naismith might not be the answer but he can tap ruck better then poor old sinkers. 28-55 just is deplorable and although our clearances as a counterbalance were strong there was so many cleared indirectly or directly to the opposition

Buddy makes a huge difference when missing for our inexperienced forward line and crafting easier options for our entries, let alone his average of 3 plus goals per game (18pts) and score involvements

macca and smith same again in our backline they offer so much guidance and stemming of momentum......but not sure on Grundy against a fast GWS forward line and maybe even macca would have been shown up a little with speed but we needed better exits last nights and macca is still king at this

Menzel two goals per game average and a very strong lead is exactly the 190cm player we need at 27yrs or age and massively experienced. Menzel in my opinion will be key is voice and score involvements for us in 2019/20

Hayward has been a very important young forward for us also

Jack u expect is a ahead of Clarke or Rowbottom wouldnt u ?

i don't think they are making a difference and Mcveigh, smith, grundy, jack are not solutions past 2020. you wont find a bigger Nick Smith fan than me.rarely loses a contest. tough
4 picks is definitely a difference. and they are have had a lot of time in the system now. but dont forget that they have players like Daniel Lloyd, the other sam reid, adam kennedy, zac williams, deboer and others who have come through the rookie / reject system. they show a lot of ticker. something that is being questioned about the swans bottom 6

finally the ruck issue - Mumford left with the arrival of Franklin for pick 35
the swans took Toby Nankervis with that pick. he lasted 2 years and was 4th in line behind Tippet, sinclair and naismith - he left looking for opportunities or money or both and he found them and a flag. Sydney used the pick they received to take Jack Maibaum. Darcy Cameron also came in that draft

now tippett, sinclair and naismith are still on the payroll and not winning in the ruck ( sinclair took a few nice marks today)

the decisions for 2012/2013 have had a definite impact on the current ruck woes

Only 7 or 8 months ago we hosted a final against GWS where we went in as favourites. Since then GWS had their best midfielder and Ruckman poached.

There shouldn't be this big a gap between the sides.

Reflecting on last night's performance and earlier ones this season, the player I'm most concerned about is Mills. We drafted him in 2015 and he had 2 good season's to start his career. Last year was written off due to injury. Not withstanding, his start to this year has seen him go backwards. He lacks poise coming out of defence, summed up by a bad hand ball when we had run to a marked player, when he should've backed himself to run and carry. He has had some awful clangers, gifting turn over goals and dropped some very easy marks. At times he has been very indecisive, getting pinged for holding the ball or causing a turnover. Definitely not the player of 2015/16. Perhaps that's why the coaches are not confident in playing him in the midfield? Others from his draft are really hitting their straps (Hopper being one of them, even our own Dawson) yet he is just average at best.

As well as junior players we have a junior coaching panel and a senior coach who's game plan has been destroyed by 666 and a couple of other rule tweaks.

And then play Clarke for only 58% of the game. He is consistently playing low minutes when he plays. I genuinely don't understand what they are trying to achieve with his selection. His ball use and decision-making is mediocre, he is not hard at it and he plays low minutes.
