It's so cunning you could put a tail on it and call it a weasel.

I saw this article about how Matt Rendell was impressed with Essendon.

The side who "really impressed" Matt Rendell during pre-season games

I noticed there is also an article behind the HS paywall, which I did not read, predicting a bottom 4 finish for Essendon.

It was interesting for me as I also was thinking Essendon would be a bottom 4 club and likewise impressed by their preseason performance v. Geelong. With all the turmoil at the club and the loss of key players, they looked very well organised and sharp. Like the Swans, they had 3 top draft picks that are in contention to play round 1.

It's difficult to predict how things will pan out this year, especially for clubs that have changed significantly in the off season. Often clubs come through the loss of key personnel quite well, as other players move up and perform at a higher level. Both the Swans and Bombers played well in losing efforts against higher ranked clubs.

There's been a lot of negativity surrounding Essendon and positive vibes at the Swans. There is also the link between the clubs because of the Joe Daniher departure from Essendon. Comparing the relative performances of these 2 clubs will be an interesting subplot for the season. Maybe there will be a story to tell when it's done.

Yesterday, during the new Chief Health Officer's presser, he said something about how exciting that AFL would be back with crowds and then he said something like "it's amazing how quickly it comes around again". I nearly choked! Clearly not a footy fan.

It'll be interesting to see what each team does with their 23rd man.

If I was GWS, I'd consider naming the Mummy as my 23rd man every week - in case his reputation/size/demeanor cause the opposition to do everything in their power to avoid concussing or seriously injuring any Giants player.

Thought this might bring nods (or frowns) of agreement from fellow RWOers.

North Melbourne have complained to the AFL about Damian Barrett after the “journalist” alleged they’d failed to support Rhyce Shaw.

    No Cookies | Herald Sun

It is said the AFL is monitoring Barrett’s commentary in his column. Barrett denied on Wednesday that he had been spoken to by the AFL about his coverage of the Kangaroos and said he found the reference “disturbing”.

“Just to be clear on that, I am not being monitored, I never have been and I never will be for what I do at AFL.com.au,” Barrett told Triple M.
