Thread: Changes for R8: Swans vs Melbourne

Heeney should stay - an injury like his should keep improving each week. He also provides important structure, which allows for McLean to have the night he did. Replacing him with a midfielder is not the right call.

    In: Buddy, Rampe, Hewett
    Out: Melican, Sinclair, COR

    Match ups:
    McCartin to get Brown
Rampe to get Jackson (and play loose. He's not a good tall yet)
    Cunningham to get Kossi

Shame Fritsch isn't playing, Rampe would give him a bath.

I'm feeling really confident about this week, I think we match up with them well

If I remember rightly, he got a $2,000 fine, that was reduced from $3,000 with an early plea. Which seems excessive for the limited amount of contact involved, but I don't think clubs really bother to fight charges, these days, unless there's a suspension involved.

Parker was fined $2000 for rough contact in the Match Review report on Sunday.

Luke did collect Close high as Luke hit the ground to make the tackle. Seemed too innocuous for an on-the-ground report though. A free would have been sufficient.

If Franklin was included it would raise an interesting strategic decision.

He would presumably come into the team for Sinclair or McLean.

McLean has just come off his best game and has good odds to keep his spot.

Sinclair provides ruck support for Hickey who is carrying an injury. The Swans ruck division is coming up against a very powerful combination in Gawn and Jackson.

If you omit Sinclair, to accommodateFranklin, can McLean perform the back up ruck duties effectively?

Only if he gets a window seat and an unread copy of the in-flight magazine.
It's very hard to live in a studio apartment in San Jose with a man who's learning to play violin. That's what she told the police when she handed them the empty revolver.

Mclean has to stay after a game like that
Interestingly Hickey played 100mins and 80% defensive, leaving a hole for Mclean to fill up forward rucking.

Even more surprising was that Mclean covered more ground than anyone on the weekend. Can be a chop out for Hickey, can definately do what Sinks did on the weekend

Sinclair doesn't ruck effectively now. He gets his hand to the ball, but is it to advantage? I'd reward McLean and leave him in. Let Buddy replace Sinclair.

Melbourne are challenging the one week ban. It will be interesting to see what transpires.

Here is the AFL's Martin Pegan's take on our teams selections this week. COR would be unlucky here, dropping to medical sub with Clarke back to the two's.

Lance Franklin and Dane Rampe are set to be the latest Swans to recover quicker than expected from injury, and just need to get through training this week to return to face Melbourne. George Hewett should also be available after missing a week with concussion. Lewis Melican hurt his hamstring late in the win over Geelong and will be sidelined for a couple of games. Callum Sinclair could be the tall forward to make way after only gathering seven touches, while Hayden McLean kicked four goals. Ryan Clarke didn’t have much opportunity after being subbed on with about 10 minutes remaining in the game. Lewis Taylor (30 disposals), Robbie Fox (29), Braeden Campbell (25) and Logan McDonald (three goals, eight marks) impressed in the reserves, but it’s unlikely the Swans will make more changes.

R7 medical sub: Ryan Clarke (replaced Lewis Melican)

Verdict: Franklin, Rampe and Hewett in for Melican, Sinclair and Clarke.

Colin O'Riordan was good against the Cats but drops to medical sub.

The Verdict is not quite accurate. O'Riordan should be on the verdict line instead of Clarke, as O'Riordan is the one in the 22 being dropped.

I don't agree with this verdict. I would keep O'Riordan and have Hewett as the med sub. But there will likely be a surprise that no one is expecting.

Trivia Note: The current AFL ladder has a 180 degree rotational symmetry about its midpoint (between 9th and 10th). That is, the win-loss record of the bottom 9 is exactly opposite of the win-loss record of the top 9 teams.

Of course we keep MClean! Silly talk to suggest otherwise. Sinclair has big heart but he is not a ruckmans A hole and is non existent as a forward.
