Derm coached McLean in the juniors so no doubt helping his former protege along either by moving him to a club with more opportunities or clearing away a direct rival

He was suggesting the Bulldogs pick McLean up earlier this year

The Sydney forward Western Bulldogs would "pick up tomorrow"

I know the AFL have a 'secret formula', guidelines and discretion when it comes to free agency compo picks. I was wondering if there is any reason why we wouldn't be in line for a compo pick if Buddy went to Brisbane, for example? Suppose he got 2 years for a million +. I know age is a consideration, but could we be up for a 3 round pick if it happens?

Wonder where Mike Fitzpatrick would like Buddy to end up.

He always has digs at us when he commentates. Hates, or has a very very grudging respect for Rampe.

But I think others are right, in this case his primary motivation is probably his protege McLean

I'm listening to the weekend commentary right now. The only negative I can recall is when he said something about Amartey not being busy enough since quarter time. I must be missing something.

Dermie is a master of "damning with faint praise".

The Lions have categorically denied speaking to Buddy Franklin.
Media rumour-mongering and scuttlebutt is a sorry reflection on itself.

Yeah, I actually thought the Bud was a committed Swan but if this is true, it appears he is just a mercenary. I hope this story is bull****.....for his legacy's sake.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if that was the case. Some in this biz are very jealous of Swans success.....and they know we're coming.

    Beware the weasel words.

They don’t need to speak to him. They can do the deal via his manager.

I thought Fagan denied doing that but can’t find it now.

My sentiments too. There is an article on the AFL website where Fagan says the last time he communicated with Buddy was just after he kicked his 1000th goal. Doesn't mean others at Brisbane haven't talked to Franklin or his representatives.

And should we be so surprised if it turns out to be true? Franklin was supposed to go to GWS 10 years ago and it was a huge blindside when he ended up with us. So if he does go to Brisbane and there was some secrecy/falsehoods involved along the way, so what? We benefited from the same stuff, so we shouldn't cry foul if we are on the receiving end this time.
