Round 13 Pre Match Thread - vs St Kilda at the SCG, Thursday 8 June, 7:10 PM

Hope the team is raring to go after the bye.

Not seen this week’s injury update, but hoping Rampe and Tom McCartin are back.

If they both come in, that would probably push Francis out.

We probably want to keep Melican in as well - get some value out of him before he gets injured again - so that leaves McAndrew or McLean as the other out if they drop a tall, or Wicks if they drop a small.

Only one win and percentage out of the eight, but we could also slip to 15th if we lose, Richmond beat Fremantle, Carlton beats Essendon, and GWS smash North.

According to AFL tonight, Tom McCartin will miss as he still has concussion symptoms, Rampe is a chance

Maybe its time to roll the dice and select at least 1 of the mid season draftee probably Arnols (Buller would indeed be a surprise but could throw sts off line, a high marking fwd to replace reid)

    Out: Parks, Clarke
    Ins: Ramps, Sheldrick/Stephens/ HHK.

The new lads need a few weeks in the ressies to get used to a new environment and hopefully help win them a game or two!

I’d love to see Sheldrick given more time on the ball, with Parker out. What’s the betting they bring back Stephens? Hopefully Heeney spends significant time in the mids again?

    Forgot about Parker’s suspension.

    Outs: Parker, Wicks, Francis
    Ins: Rampe, Almartey, Sheldrick

I think we need Clarke to tag Sinclair or Higgins.

Wicks had a great game , was that pressure forward we have missed . I think he stays in

    Higgins?

Unless I've missed something, Higgins still plays in the Saints' forward line and will demand the attention of one of our band (potentially rotating) of smallish defenders.

Sinclair is another matter. Clarke did do quite well on him the first time we played the Saints last season, less well the second time. Like Daicos, he seems to be using the half-back flank as a starting point but then pushing up the ground, especially as games wear on.

Is he worth a tag? Not sure, but I think we'll win this game not by stopping a single player but by improving our ball use around the ground. Pleasing as it was to beat Carlton, the connection between midfield and forward line was largely missing. If we can get back to some semblance of actually aiming at a forward, we might stand a chance of beating a team not in the bottom handful.

I doubt that Clarke and Wicks co-exist in the first picked 22 long-term. Not with Papley, Heeney and Hayward also there to complement whichever talls are available. So it's possible that Clarke loses his spot as early as this week. He'd be a good 23rd player to have on the bench. At this stage of their careers, he's more flexible and likely to provide more than either Warner or Sheldrick.

Another possibility is that, if Amartey is ready to return, the coaches decided that Amartey and McLean between them can provide back-up to Hickey. So McAndrew might end his debut tour at this point, and return to the VFL to continue to learn his craft.
