Saturday saw the replaying of the round 8 clashes that were deferred due to to representative fixtures earlier in the year.
The round saw a number of upsets with Wyong recording their first win of the season against Gosford. I think I had said previously that Wyong were a good side and a bit of luck would see them do well, and Saturdays result proved that. Wyong led at every change & were led by young guns Scott Tasker, Mitch Ede & John Coop-Folkes
Wyong 13-16-94 Gosford 8-11-59
Newcastle City's win over Killarney Vale was probably the upset of the round. City's coach, Scott Harrington has come out of retirement and this has proved a masterstroke for the Blues who have won a few on the trot now & could be the dark horse come finals time if this form keeps up.
City 14-6-90 Killarney Vale 5-11-41
Warners Bay again lost a close one, this time against Nelson Bay. While Nelson Bay led at every change, the margin was no more than a kick throughout and Warners Bay's coaching staff must have been wondering if someone has put a curse on them this year. Take nothing away from Nelson Bay though, their young team is ferocious when near the footy and will be fighting tooth and nail with City for fourth spot
Nelson Bay 8-9-57 Warners Bay 7-13-55
Cardiff took on Terrigal in the match of the round & what a match it was. although the final score was one sided to Cardiff, the skills on display were what was expected from these two leading sides in the competition. Cardiff however had matchwinners all over the ground, with Luke Orton being the Hawks best, and although not listed as the coaches best, Grant Keeble had a top game in his first senior game in over two years, keeping Maurice Goolagong to just 3 goals & big Maurie eventually being moved away from the goalsquare such was Keeble's dominance over the big man.
It was the first time in a long time Terrigal were kept scoreless when they failed to register a point in the third quarter
Cardiff 17-15-117 Terrigal 7-1-43
