Before you criticize a man, walk a mile in his shoes. That way you'll be a mile away and he'll be shoeless.

Always admired Stuie and this article does him justice. Gave our club all he had and some. I hope some role can be found for him as he is an inspirational person and great role model for the younger players. All the best Stuie and thank you.

Just a thought, if we went back-to-back next year, should Barry Hall give Maxfield his 2005 premiership medal? You can't argue with the obvious inspiration Stuie provided us with this year.

Erm... no. Why would he? Why would Stu want it? It won't change the fact that he didn't play.

There's nothing to suggest that he would, but if Stu's off-field leadership really meant that much to him...who knows? It would be a selfless gesture, but I don't think anyone would really expect a player to do that. Just one from left field.

But don't they now give medals to all who played during the season at some stage? I thought they'd changed it after John Longmire (I think?) in 1996?

Doubtful. He didn't play a game that year.

I'm 99% certain that medals are awarded only to the 22 who play in the GF. I don't necessarily agree with that - there's always a couple of hard luck stories. At the same time, most of the players who played but weren't in the GF didn't really deserve medals in any case. Schauble, Nicks and Maxfield for past endeavours, and perhaps Luke Vogels for this season. They are the only ones.

in a word NO, they don't and never have, The runners-up used to get medals too, but I don't know if that is still the case.

The runners-up get special silver commemorative medals after the game. They no longer get them in the official post game presentation. (Think the sight of grown men crying was impacting on ratings).
