One gets the feeling that if Davo doesn't make an impression in the absence of Brutal Bazza, he's going to be axed from the club at the end of the season or his contract. His deeds in 2005 are fast fading. He has taken the unfortunate label of team skitter with an apetite for mazza type play.
I sort of agree. As much as I admire his flashes of brilliance (time to time), I seriously believe that his time is up. If he doesn't make his presence felt in the FW line he'll be gone.
How long are people going to carry on about davis's previous feats??
In todays football we cant and shouldnt reply on previous things,we should be looking forward like other clubs are doing...
IMO i think we are slowly falling behind the others standards...........

Frankly I think Davis is wasted. Put him on the ball and have him drift forward to try to snag a couple of goals. Make him work his butt off as everyone says he should but in a position where he hasn't got a bloke contesting every marking contest with him.
By the way he made some darn good leads yesterday but the passes to him were 20 metres in front of him where he had no chance of marking.
Witness the 3rd Q, he gets 10 metres on his man, the ball is delivered to the ground 5 metres in front of him he gets to the ball and gets a cruel bounce, (Swans morons bag him) he recovers, beats his man, gets the ball off to MOL I think who passes to Bevan for a goal. Still the Swans morons bagged him. I wonder if some of those said morons post on here.
We had a very low inside 50 count, we may have been short up forward but that low count doesn't help your forwards stats.

Johnson seems to be a lot more consistent and damaging than Davis these days.
I thought he was fine yesterday. He didn't dominate, but I don't think any forward on either side really did, bar Johnson early on (and even then 1 of those first quarter goals was pretty freakish and you'd probably be pulled if you tried that at the Swans). It's obviously hard to look at work rate on the television, but it seemed to me like he was working perfectly fine and was hard at the footy when the opportunity presented itself.
I was suprised to see someone in the match thread suggest he looked soft, the closest I can think of it coming to him avoiding a contest was peeling away from his man to get open in the forward line, I played a lot of football as a forward and I'm pretty sure that at every level right through to Teal Cup I had that drummed into my head as the right thing to do as a forward.
The ball was already contested and Davis' man went towards the contest. Goodes was contesting it, didn't get the ball over to Davis but it did create space in the forward line that Ed Barlow could run into and kick a goal after receiving from Goodes. Seems like smart forward play to me, if Davis went to the contest it would have at best been a ball-up or one of Goodes or Davis attempting a very difficult snap in a pack of players... shepard you say? Goodes' man was already there and if Davis went to the contest then his man could commit to it and I doubt the sheparding would have helped in that situation... Davis didn't goal, but another Swan did. You can't bemoan the lack of risk taking play whilst you bemoan a player taking a risk.
It will be interesting to see his TOG %, going by the stat brought up at the start of the fourth he wasn't in the Swans most interchanged/rested players. A big step up to go from playing against Canberra quality for a few weeks, being sick enough to miss a session last week then having to play against Geelong.

Same, but I think that is a result of Johnson being allowed to play his game as he wants and subsequently he is more motivated and puts in a lot harder.

Player Ranking = 35. (3rd lowest of all 44 players. Only Jack and Smith were lower)
But then again Goodes was the 2nd highest ranked swan (5th overall). Go figure!

I think Johnson is a freak and Davis is nowhere near his level of talent. That's not to say Davis isn't a good to very good player on his day, but he doesn't pull things out of his backside the way Johnson does.
Part of the problem with discussions about Davis on this board is expectations. If we think he's going to play like Johnson we're going to be disappointed and mark him far more harshly than he deserves for even his reasonable games.
I would have thought Davis has the same skills (or at least similar). He has the freakish ability to score as we know from the 2005 Geelong final, and that kick against Carlton. But maybe he is too concentrated on doing the "team thing" rather than doing what comes naturally.
