A good media headline but it has no real pratical effect at this stage.

The fund has shareholders (not the AFL) that want a maximum ROI. That does not come from AFL at this stage. It is likely to evolve though with a second team and much more interest in AFL in Sydney.

When AFL has more clout - e.g. when we have AFL derby's and a second team at ANZ - AFL will have more say in ANZ fixturing.

In this case, the ownership is of little consequence.

Leo Barry? you star! We'll miss ya, ''Leapin''.

In short, the AFL has NOT bought Homebush.

    Correct?
    Correct

Bull@@@@, Ernie has a valid point. You can't tell me that a full SCG wouldn't have made a difference Sat night.

Agreed, I don't even know why we play out there, have not pulled a decent crowd there since the 2006 prelim.

It wouldn't have any direct influence on the Swans. They'll still play 7-8 home games at the SCG and 3-4 at Homebush.
I guess that with this development, West Sydney will play all 11 at Homebush, and the proposal for the Showgrounds won't be required any more.
NRL would still use Homebush, same as they currently do. The only difference there is if there's a clash for dates (such as Swans v Geelong clashing with Wests Tigers v North Queensland), there's a better chance the AFL will get the ground.
What I'm not sure about is what this does to the soccer World Cup bid - this could be a trump card for the AFL. Homebush is an important venue for the World Cup bid; but unless there's an acceptable deal between the government/FFA and the AFL, there's no way an AFL commissioner would agree to evict the AFL from the ground for 10 weeks mid-season. If the AFL doesn't like the deals being offered, this gives them an effective right of veto.

Yes I can. The last time we played Collingwood at the SCG, we lost.

It's pathetic if we have to rely on a perceived ground advantage to beat Collingwood, or anyone else for that matter. We can't exactly take the SCG interstate with us, can we?

Rubbish. The three games at ANZ in 2007 all drew bigger crowds than the 2006 preliminary final. Do your homework.

The SCG is our home. A full SCG last saturday night, on it's small confines, would have more than likely resulted in a stirring win instead of the deflating loss at the atmosphere free ANZ.
Bollocks. You obviously weren't at the game on Saturday night if you think ANZ is atmosphere free. The atmosphere was fantastic and something that has been lacking at the SCG for a long time now. Also what do you think would happen to all our superpass members and our bottom line if we reverted to playing all games at the SCG?

Fact is we continue to get bigger crowds out west than at the SCG. You may not like that but that is the reality.

The big crowd was due to the opposition not the fact it was at Swamp Stadium.

It's a bit rich comparing atmoshpere and crowd numbers when the big drawing games are played out at wastelands and not at the real ground.

If Saturdays game had been held at the SCG it would have attracted the same numbers and a better atmosphere.

Fact is it's who your playing and how competetive they are that attracts the big crowds, Oh, and FREE Public Transport is a little handy as well.

Fact is it's how your team is playing and how tight the game is that determines the atmosphere. The location has nothing to do with it whatsoever.

If you think there's always great atmosphere at the SCG, you obviously don't attend many games there.

The crowd size at wasteland stadium relates to the fact we played collingwood. Does your memory extend back to last years elimination final against North Melbourne....about 18000 was the turn out.

Regardless of whether you like it or not, it has been the Swans home since relocating to Sydney. Many Swans fans, me included, have been going to games there since then.
I've also attended many games, including last saturdays, at wastelands, and to suggest it has a better atmosphere than the SCG is just ridiculous.
30000+ at the SCG in a close game is an incredible atmosphere every time and something wastelands will never have. It's a souless enviroment, one major problem being, the seats are too far away from the action. If you are unlucky enough to be in the top tier, it's like watching from a far away blimp.
Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to pause and reflect... MT
