Thread: Next year's team

    Next year's team

I don't think we've had one of these types of threads for a little while (or maybe we have, in which case can a mod please merge with that).

I like the look of the team as it builds for next year.

Of tonight's side, I expect outs for 2010 to be:

    OUT: O'Loughlin, Ablett

IN: Vezpremi, Bird, McVeigh, Buchanan, Richards, Malceski, Meredith, Schmidt

    POSSIBLE DEBUTS: Currie

UNCERTAIN: Bevan, Barlow, Thornton, Laidlaw, Brabazon (?)

Building a bit of depth and young talent, with a mix of experience which will drop a little in 2011 when Kirk and J Bolton probably leave.

You can remove Ablett from the outs and insert Barry.
Remove Barlow from the uncertains, he will be around for a while - a long while I hope. Likewise Thornton and (imo) Laidlaw. Insert Malceski.
    For debuts, add Johnston.
    Looking good.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

    Oh yes, forgot Barry.

I think Ablett needs to go - adds little and takes up a space from the large list of capable ins.

Not sure if Johnston will get a run next year.

I hope Barlow makes it, but I think he's still borderline.
I like Thornton and Laidlaw too, but again they still aren't there yet.
Yes, Malceski needs to resurrect his career next year.

I would be shocked if Ablett goes, being a much younger side next year and will need stronger bodies, keeping he and Buchanan would be important. Dengue fever is pretty serious

Same story for Bevan. Barlow looks like he just lacks confidence in himself. As he gets closer to 50 games, I am sure he will look a different more confident player

Schmidt, Thornton, Playfair and Brabazon would all be doubtful given a history of injury

A tragedy so many of our younger players have struggled with injury

Bird?, Schmidt, Johnston (apparently close to a certain for round 1). If it was me, Richards does not come it until he improves his game.

Totally overlooked Bird. He's in Barlow is out.

Schmidt needs to do some more work to get ahead of some of those other names.

Johnstone needs some more time in the reserves but would like to see a debut next year.

We need another tall defender, so Richards needs to stay.

Merredith is a cracker. Keeper for sure.

Dunno about the fabulous Schmidty. He keeps breaking. Perhaps at another club he can break his hoodoo. I doub t we can afford to keep him, but I want someone else to pick him up. He can win games.
