    2009 Rate a Season: #16 Darren Jolly

Yeah, yeah, I know he's gone ... and I know you still want to rate him.

(Play the man ... not the wife!! )

    8.

Because of his wife, we lost a good ruckman.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

Very good season which understandably tapered away towards the end.

It will be interesting to see how much if at all he is missed. My feeling is that the difference on the teams performance as a result of losing a very good ruckmen like Jolly is not that great as compared to if we had lost our best midfielder.

On the other hand I believe the loss of Ball at the end of 2005 was extremely telling on the ultimate result in 2006.

So ultimately time will tell on how important Jolly was to our structure.

Yep, this is an interesting question - the club has obviously always put a high premium on ruckmen and has gone hard after two promising types.

But given this was probably Jolly's year, it's also interesting to note it's probably the poorest year we've had for clearances for a number of seasons (tho I 'fess up I haven't actually looked at the official stats on this - gut instinct only). This suggests to me that as long as we have someone that can give a contest in the ruckman we shouldn't be too badly off.

7.5 for Jolly - faded in the last third of the year, understandably given his workload.

I just cannot bring myself to rate him, I'm still peed off at what he did.

Even though I reckon we've done extremely well with his replacements and I reckon we would have been up the proverbial creek in two years time when he definately would have pulled the pin had he not done it this year, I just can't build that bridge.

    8.

Would have got a 9, but 8 because he went to Collingwood.

Great season from a ruckman, who Melbourne practically gave to us for nothing.

We traded a first rounder for him.

Gonna be good to see some spirited, hardcore booing at a Collingwood game.

    Unrateable....I don't like Collingwood.

Works at multiple levels. WRT his wife, his replacement, his demeanor.

8 from me, 9 if he hadn't gone to Collingwood.

Won't join in the sniping. He has a right to live his own life without having to kowtow to us. He, his wife and his children have a right to live in Melbourne amongst their families if they choose. Its just its Collingwood.....then again it could have been the dogs, and it would have been worse.
