RWOers in Sydney who grew up in another state

Just a little pre season fun...

When reading replies its always interesting to see the number of us who luv the Swans but grew up in another State. I grew up in SAust and followed and still do passionately follow the mighty Central Districts.

I started following Sydney when I came here via the Navy, so i could watch a game of AFL and support someone...Once the Swans moved here Ive hardly missed a game, so I am almost as passionate about them as I am Centrals I know not a real supporter.

How many of the members here originally came from interstate and do you still follow the local team you grew up with? Who are the locally bred supporters did you follow any of the NSW local comp or just had an interest in the Swans?

We could probably do some sort of a poll but I dont know how...

I grew up in Geelong, but it was a very long time ago.....and I now live in Canberra, much easier to follow the Swans

Born, bred and still in Sydney.

Started playing 'Aussie Rules' in the juniors mid 60's and sat with my father each week following the local side, Southern Districts (who played in Norf's strip) playing in the Sydney competition. Stopped playing around mid 70's when started work and apart from watching the occasional game on Saturday afternoon on TV and The Winners with Drew Morphett on the ABC, had no real contact with VFL for almost a decade.

That all changed in '82 when a certain side came to town.....the rest is history.

    Ditto!
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Grew up in the Hunter Valley. Played and refereed rugby at school. Had no interest in any football after that until introduced to the Swans about 10 years ago.

Southern Riverina NSW all the way. Lived in Victoria for a year. Was the only way I could think of to improve the place!

In about 3 years time, I'm planning on having done the same, albeit with a pit-stop in Canberra on the way through (you wouldn't want it to be any more than a pit-stop, mind you).
Officially on the Reid and Sumner bandwagon!

My grandparents had a neighbour in Moorabbin,Victoria, named Bobby Skilton.
They had a rugby union background but followed The Bloods because of Bobby and his family.

Born and bred Sydney but my dad was a one eyed Victorian (and devoted Carlton man) -I was the only one of three kids in the family to follow the footy, Dad was ever so proud! then I moved to Melbourne to work when I was 21('85) - lived and breathed footy for 3 years (and still followed Carlton) then various other places in between to come back to Sydney at the end of 1995 (and Carlton had won the flag that year) started going to Swans games in '96 and as they say - I changed teams (footy teams that is ) and the rest is history!!!
