    The Ben McGlynn appreciation thread

He has been a great trade for us. He played his guts out tonight but he may have copped a season ending injury. I have even read he may not be able to fly home and will have to come back by land transport (I hope that's not true). I wanna give a big shout out to him and wish him a speedy recovery. Hope you'll join me.

Was one gutsy - if reckless - attack on the ball. Don't think he has ever not put in when playing for us and we'll definitely miss him if he's out for the rest of the year.

Milne copped a similar injury in Perth and had to drive home because he couldn't fly.

There is quite a few precedents for guys with similar facial injuries barely missing a game. He/we may be lucky.

Both his determination and his accuracy in the clinches are impressive. Loved him at the start of the year and it was great to see him come back as determined and skillfull as ever. The Hawks must be kicking themselves as it's hard imagine a team where he wouldn't get a start. Love the way the Gopher plays and his run-on goal today was pure delight. I hope he recovers quickly and sees out his playing career over the next decade at the Swans.

We need him! Great heart, and a great kid, and CAN play! ... saw him after a Ressies game in Canberra ... friendly, articulate and affable, happy to chat with anyone ... I'm a big fan, glad he's now one of ours - get well fast Ben!!!

You really think it was reckless? I think it was more an unco effort by Clarke (who was probably in a better position to make a decent contest). Pretty awful result though. He looked pretty sick.

Ben was probably BOG before that awful clash. An amazing recruit for us this year. Here's to a speedy recovery and hopefully a return before season end.

Did I hear on the Fox coverage that at 3/4 time Roos said to the team that Ben's effort as a Bloods effort or words to that effect?

He quickly went from "oh, one of the new guys" to one of my favourite players from the very start of the season. And shortly after his (first) injury that knocked him out for a while earlier, and he was interviewed on the ground before an SCG game, no one else down at the ground-level seats seemed to notice him as he walked past our seats, so I stood up and applauded him for having such a great new start with the Swans. He gave a smile (appreciative & genuine, not "who's the weird stalker") and a wave and I turned into a giggly teenybopper for the rest of the game. My partner still rolls his eyes if I tell the story of When Ben McGlynn Smiled At Me.

As we saw today, he's an important player for us, both in skill and inspiration. I look forward to his future with the Swans. And hope his eye socket or whatever is broken heals fast!

McGlynn has been tremendous. Consistently hard at it, week in, week out, regardless of how the team is faring.

    Another inspired recruiting choice.

    Sending Benny a speedy recovery!

    Courtesy of Swans Facebook page:

Ben McGlynn will have surgery Sunday morning in Perth, on a depressed fracture of the cheekbone. He's such a courageous player and we'll miss him. Doctor Nathan Gibbs expects him to miss at least three weeks, but will re-assess after the surgery. Get well soon Ben.
