    Round 1 - Melbourne

After a rest last year, it's time to re-instate these weekly match polls.

Do I think we'll knock off the Demons at the MCG? No.

I know we've had a reasonably good pre-season, but the team is probably still a bit unsettled, especially considering personnel changes and our reputation for being slow starters.

There was also something about the way we were defeated in Round 17 last year that makes me think there's a gap between the two sides that will be difficult to overcome in the short term.

I think we'll improve on that appalling performance last year, but it won't be enough.

    Demons by 26.

Swans between 10 and 19. Melbourne are an exciting young team but, unfortunately for them, Gary Rohan and Shane Mumford play for Sydney.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

Just have a feeling we'll drop this one and then bounce back against the bummers.

If we do win I think we will do it easily in the end. Get out to a good start, lead by a goal or two at quarter time, put the foot down and have a half time lead of around 26 points. In the third quarter the Dees will come back but we will kick a couple of goals late to hold a 3 goal marging into the final quarter. In the fourth it is a tough battle back and forth, a few chances missed by both sides, a couple of outstanding goals kicked, then Kennedy will kick a couple to give us a 25 point win.
If we lose it will be by about 14 points and we will all be frustrated (again) by our inaccuracy.

We HAVE to win. I'm attending the game with a Dees-supporting friend & her husband. I need to gloat over after-match boozenings.

    We'll win this one comfortably.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

I think we will win and win easily. The $2.25 about us at the TAB is a steal. Even take the $3.20 at 15.5 +. I believe that the loss last year was abherration, i have not seen Melbourne kick with such effieciency since. We were a kick from a prelim and they finished 12-13 on the ladder. Our backline is depleted but they don't have a power forward anyway.

I was there in Round 17 and we were made to look slow, slow, slow! I believe we have a faster team than last year and our pre-season form has been much better than Melb. Swans by 16.

I think Melbourne can make the 8. After that appalling wake-up call last year, we should win, but not by more than three goals.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)
