A 23 round fixture, plus finals, is already too long and too much of a drain on players, some of whom are not ready for the rigours of a new season even after a four month break. I have long favoured going to a 17 round fixture, retaining the NAB Cup as useful for the clubs, and having two split rounds which the players want anyway. I was very happy to see this article from Jimmy Bartel; take note of the poll at the end.
Less gives everyone more bang for buck
