    Built v Bought

What are people's thoughts on this?

Reference article: Buying a team better than building a team

Personally I hate Miami for "buying" their team but are we really considered the same way when 90% of our 22 were "built".

It's always been a facile and silly distinction. Especially in a salary capped league.

I don't see how you can hate Miami just for good recruiting - that's what we are famous for!
Yes we've built a lot but Lockett, Hall, Tippet and Buddy - that says enough.
Miami already had Wade so they only 'bought' Bosh and James - who were on lesser contracts to play with each other, they could've got a lot more money with other clubs.

Personally, I would rather players accepting to play for less with us because we're a good club.

I'm not saying anything bad about the Swans but to hate Miami for wanting to win is bad.

Fair response. I suppose hate is pretty harsh and I didn't intend on a Miami bashing. I think the way in which it was dealt (LeBron's The Decision) was such a circus and very poorly executed and quite disrespectful to Cleveland at the time. More-so, the comparison with Miami does not sit well with me when they clearly disregard the rest of our team that obviously weren't bought.

I think it's a point that many across the AFL have of the current day Swans, that we've bought our team and the AFL has given us a free ride (with COLA the continual fuel). Getting Lockett and Hall back then, most probably pitied our team at the time so did not feel any resentment towards us. But now being successful and on the back of a premiership in 2012, it feels as though a large contingent of the media and AFL supporters are trying to tarnish our team. I think we've earnt respect from the footy public but it just hasn't been shown ala Hawks, Geelong and I wonder if we'll ever get to that stage.

I completely agree with you, we are built, I just didn't like the hate towards Miami, maybe out of frustration of watching their finals series haha.

I believe we're built not bought - we havnt had any success YET with Buddy and Tippet.
We won in 2012 without them.

I only commented because I can't stand the hate towards the Heat.
Especially LeBron being one of the greatest athletes and absolute freak to watch! He's 'decision' wasn't the greatest way to do it, but at the end of the day he's still an incredible athlete and he wanted championships, which he wouldn't of got at Cleveland.

    Miami Multimillionaires hey?
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Bit if hate for Miami because their fans are fairweather and LeBron is a dick. I'll never forget him throwing the ball at that female fans face years ago.
