For all is grumpy-old-man negativity, Barry never specifically said we were old or slow - the way I read his post was GWS would slaughter old slow teams like North & the Hawks.

They may also beat us. Of the subset of teams that Barry thinks GWS will slaughter, old, slow teams could be mutually exclusive from the Swans

Average age is a BS stat. Median age would be far more useful.

Seriously wasn't expecting to be first on the ladder six weeks ago.
The view from up here is pretty good.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

It looks like 24y 7m compared to 25y 2m average age for the side that played Saturday. I think our club age demographic looks good once you go past Buddy and Tippo.

It's the brief, little known period between the stone age and the bronze age; where they made really nice things out of plaster of paris and silk.

I'm pretty sure that's when Richmond won their last premiership.

Not sure but the often forgotten MO'D age was between 2008 and 2010.

So glad you asked. First question: for which group of players? I'd suggest we use all players who've played in a senior game this year. To date, 651 players from the 18 teams, 34 from the Swans.

Behold the "violin plot", where the shape of the orange blob gives you some idea of age distribution. GWS for example have a young bulge near the lower end, whereas North tapers up to Brent Harvey.

Our median age is 23.7 years. This is below the league median (black dashed line) of 24.4 years. The range is 22.3 years (Brisbane) up to 26.2 years (West Coast).

It's funny how mode is the one everyone remembers from high school stats, and the least useful But since you ask, 23 years for the Swans (5 players currently).

If you look at that graph for any length of time it becomes very 3D, the black dots and dotted line appear to come away from the screen.

Either that or I need to have that mushroom salad for lunch again tomorrow...

Cheathorn are our biggest threat, therefore, them having to play an elimination final and possibly get knocked out in the first round works in our favour big-time.

We can also finish 2nd and still get two home finals.

Quite frankly, I'd rather play Geelong or Adelaide first up rather than Umpirethorn.
I was originally excited about finishing 1st/2nd until I hear about the Bye. Which could mean if we win our first Finals game we will have played 1 game in 3 weeks! Given our poor post-Bye record, I believe this is a bit worry!! I am not sure how Horse and the team are going to overcome this problem?
