jesus they're drinking their own bath water down south.. you'd think their locks for a Div 1 flag with the confidence going in to Prems next year.
You can guarantee that'll be a much different Uni team come finals.
This talk about Camden stepping up to the PD comp next year is absolute madness. The idea that a team presently coming fourth in Div 1 could possibly step up both in terms of playing strength and admin demands is just delusional but it would just be like the dipsticks at the NSWAFL to push for it to tick that "growth box"
The west in Sydney is a huge black spot for the AFL. One would have thought that GWS would have some effect but at the senior level at least it has been non-existent, then again as we are told again and again it is a generational investment which I read as code for "we don't bother ourselves with the boring unsexy matter of senior amateur clubs in that area". I've always thought that Penrith were the obvious contender to emerge but for reasons unknown they haven't been able to leverage off their juniors and demographics. I gather that the Leaguies have really got their act together out there now under Gus Gould so that mat be a factor.
Camden have clearly done well and are progressing well but to throw them to the wolves from relative success to a grade where they will surely cop 20+ goal weekly hidings is surely a massive "sink or swim" gamble that the game should not have to take.
You could almost make a case for three comps - Prems having 10 clubs of Seniors and Reserves, and 1st and 2nd Div having 8 & 7 clubs with Seniors and Reserves.
Promote and relegate between the 1st and 2nd Divisions.
Premier - the usual plus Camden if so be it.
1st Div - the highest ranking teams out of higher grades ie -
Blacktown
Parra
Mac Uni
Sutherland
Balmain (all D1)
Penrith
Sydney Uni
UTS (all D2)
2nd Div -
Randwick (D2 but came from lower grades)
SWS (D2)
Wollondilly (D2)
Pennant Hills (D2)
Campbelltown (D3)
Nor-West (D3)
North Shore (D3)
Saves clubs from D3 coming up against the likes of Div 1 powerhouses where we'd likely see cricket scores, like my mob against Sutherland.
Sorry post on the wrong thread - what about the structure below for 2018?
Prems - Camden up - just do it - make it a 10 team comp
Div 1 - North Shore, Wests, UNSW up and Holdroyd down - allows Holroyd to rebuild and 12 team comp
Div 2 - North Shore, South West and UTS up - 12 team and a really even comp
Div 3 - St G and Magic up - 10 team comp
Div 4 - Camden, West North Shore up East Coast, South West down - good 10 team comp
Div 5 - the rest
Isnt it already done that its firsts and reserves?
The divisionalisation structure has its flaws but it has served SydneyAFL well.
I cannot see how another structure would work better.
Unless each club is told you must have 3 opens teams plus u19s and cannot have any more the issues with tabling games will remain.
Don't change it I reckoned.
