#AFL Round 6 Weekly Discussion Thread

It has just been reported on ABCNews24 that the AFL are about to hold a press conference to 'make an announcement'. It is predicted it will be the rubber stamping of a ......twilight GF. They just can't leave the game alone......

In regard to this round's games.....a real thriller tonight for Friday footy! Game of the Round.....probably us and Geelong, if we perform. The Western Derby should be a good game and Tigers v Pies could be interesting. Have a great weekend! Go Swans!

Yep, let's call a press conference to announce that something that has been the case for around 120 years isn't changing. STOP THE PRESSES!
My opinion is objective truth in its purest form

AFL has a ridiculous sense of self importance. No important in the big picture of society.

On another note, the AFL really should declare this as advertising content, not news, given their commercial arrangement with Crownbet. It's not even worthy of a standalone piece, given all of the stats are already in the match preview, and then some. Wonder if this will become a regular thing? Doggies a lock? Or do the stats say Carlton? - AFL.com.au

So, another Friday night thriller involving Carlton...

They did show a bit towards the end. Cripps is good.

Does anyone else feel that skills are down in general this year? I know it's very anecdotal, based on what games I see, but I seem to be thinking "plenty of intent let down by poor execution" in a lot of games. Cobwebs are normally shaken out by now, but almost feels like they aren't.

I concur. I took a mate - down from Sydney - to Docklands yesterday for his first ever AFL game. It was a scrappy affair that never reached any great heights. Neither of these two teams will figure late in September based on that performance. Given, they were both the tired losers from ANZAC Day games, but I can't see either Dees or Bombers getting anywhere near the pre- and early-season hype that was heaped upon them.

There was some good transition at stages but a lot of that was due to to poor forward pressure (from both teams). Lots of intercepts from misdirected kicks, handballs to no-one and dropped easy marks. I've seen better play at Port Melbourne games.

The 36,000 crowd never really got into the game either. Old mate enjoyed it but I think I let him down taking him to that game. I literally nearly fell asleep at one stage.

Just saw some GWS v Lions highlights and I think Hipwood has more chance of being the next Buddy than Joe Daniher has. His 'long bomb' goal today was very Buddy like......boom!
