Here's Matt's chat with the parents. He does seem like a nice young man.

And here's Andrew Wu's profile of him, including this interesting snippet:

"He spent the summer watching his training and practice game footage with one of the best in that position of recent times, Nick Smith, who was rarely beaten in his 211-game career."

Geez , it sounds like the hierarchy are rolling the dice on him. Despite perhaps not being match ready, they need to see if he has something. With reduced list sizes looming and his contract up end of season, they aren’t going to find the answer in a scratch match!

I'm really stoked for Matt this weekend, maybe more than any other debutant so far. That's a lot of injury time for a young guy to bear, especially when you have the expectations from others as you were taken in the first round. At worst, I hope he shows enough with the opportunity he's given. In my heart of hearts, I hope he rips it up.

He does, doesn't he? Though when he's been fit in the NEAFL, he has shown a little bit of white line fever.

I think everyone will be pretty fair on him, he’s had a hard injury road

Pretty good last quarter. Would be nice to know who he played on. Has nice disposal and was cool under pressure late. I real bonus if he comes on from here.

The huge smile on his face as he came from the ground was a delight to see.

Seem to have been hearing his name for years, good to see him out there finally.

I thought he went alright, especially later in the game helping cover for the increasingly-sore Rampe. Hope that hand isn't too bad. He strung together a nice series of intercepts and long kicks back out.

Yeah, his positioning on a couple of occasions stood out to me too. Also showed he has a little bit of a right foot too, when needed.
