Lots to like about today's hit out. We defiantly look better when Hickey is in the ruck compared to Sinclair. The newbies Gulden, Campbell and Logan did enough to impress. Melican mistakes down back are a worry. Not sure on Hayward or Reid up forward. Both looked ordinary today.

For those without match coverage, here's the final score:

    SYD 12.14.86
    GWS 18.6.114

Looks like we still can't kick straight. 2 more scoring shots, lose by 28 pts.

No Bud, Lloyd, Stephens, McInerney, FOX

No Whitfield, Davis, Mummy, Daniels, Hogan, Hill, Kennedy

does anyone else find it hard to watch us clear by bombing it straight up but when Hopper cleared he faked twice and then perfectly found a man not under pressure.

Warner better in the centre than Mills today? Warner very attacking even in the centre

I like seeing improvement in our young guys........ but the young guys at GWS are better...........we have a long way to go

We had two more scoring shots 12 less free and 15 more inside 50s and that after they have the first six inside 50s for the match so improving our delivery into forward 50 and our kicking accuracy inside 50 things are looking pretty good

Wicks, Warner and McDonald all big positives today.

Our defense looks lost without Jake Lloyd. Melican had a terrible day and Rampe wasn't much better. I don't think we have any options here, at least for the start of the season. But Melican has a history of having poor games, but coming back to string together a number of good games.

More than Melican and Rampe playing poorly, we didn't fill the space in front of their leading forwards, which makes it difficult for the defender playing from behind. I think we can fix this.

It's going to take a while to get the mix right, but there's a lot to choose from, so we should get there. Without Buddy, out forward line will take time to transition. It would be nice to have him back to get us through the next couple of years.

There was a moment where RB had the ball on our defensive 50m line and hit a perfect pass to a free player in the corridor.

Campbell used it ok too. Our game plan is transitioning in the right direction I reckon.

Sydney's best from the AFL site:

Sydney: Parker, McCartin, Warner, Florent, Rowbottom, Blakey.

    A fair assessment.

Gulden, Campbell and McDonald should all be playing in round 1, along with probably Wicks and Warner.
