Rnd 17 - vs Richmond at MCG, 7:20 PM, Thursday 6 July 2023

Our season hangs by a thread, and we will have to win most games from here on in to make the eight. Whilst we won't tank, I think it is highly unlikely we will overtake five teams ahead of us when we are three wins (or two wins and a draw) out of the eight with only seven games to go.

Tom McCartin should be ready hopefully, and this might be a the swansong MCG game for Buddy, In fact, all of the away games remaining this season will be Buddy's last game at that ground (Optus, Marvel etc) if he retires as expected at the end of this season. Then again, who knows, they might give him another 10 year contract if we can't get TDK or HH . I think if his knee has recovered, they will play him ahead of Almartey or McClean who were very ineffective. Almartey in particular needs to be able to take overhead marks.

Heeney needs to find some form and confidence. I am not sure he should be in the squad at the moment. What is the point of him marking the ball if he can't even score a behind most times? Even Clarke would be better I think at this stage.

Hickey is according so some on here, cooked, and according to others, lacking fitness due to his injury. Either way, he needs to be able to kick goals when he takes marks in the forward 50 and he would be out for me too if Ladhams was fit.

Fox should spend more time in defence, and Ollie more in the midfield.

    So for me:

    Outs: Heeney, Almartey; Francis
    Ins: Clarke/Wicks, Franklin, Tom McCartin

Sub: someone we will actually use in the game this time eh? How about Corey Warner.

I don't think the side will change too much. Fox may go back that is about it. Corey Warner should be sub. Buddy can have a farewell game at home. We aren't gifting players games.

I think in his pre-game interview on Friday night Horse said it would be for a couple of weeks. Wasn't clear whether that included Friday night, or a couple more.

Yeah, I can remember reading that he had a scan and it showed a slight tear.

I thought Horse said Chad had a slight tear in his calf which will mean 2 weeks minimum

Richmond will have 2 debutants including a former Swans Academy player. Double debut against Swans

Please no to either Clarke or Wicks- no point in playing either as they have no future with us: Clarke tries hard but not AFL level and Wicks is a habitual offender with limited ability.
The only change could be bringing Tom Mac back, but whoever would go out will be a bit stiff.
    Agreed re Corey as sub.
