Pratt, Capper, Lockett, Buddy. Has a team ever had so many special full forwards? I do include Capper as, while he might not ever have won a Coleman, the Wiz could do aerial stuff that no one else could. Others can take spectacular marks, maybe one or two a game, Waz took one or two a quarter (and even better ones at training if you are to believe him ).

Pratt … if only there was footage of him flying, but he did it that often that there are plenty of photos of him doing it. Think about it for a moment. Today they have cameras that can take a perfect photo from a huge distance and they take dozens of frames and choose the best one. Back in Pratt’s day, one shot and yet we have plenty of photos of him taking speckies. Think of all the ones they missed. But then there is his goal kicking prowess. 150 in a season … in less games than Hudson (and Hudson had team mates deliberately feeding him goals to catch Pratt’s record. There is no comparison. Pratt. Day light. More daylight. Hudson.

    Plugger. 1360. Enough said.

Buddy fits nicely in that pantheon of champions.

Some players go too long. But I think Boomer Harvey and Michael Tuck still had roles to play when they were shown the door.

Buddy isn’t the champion, dominating full forward he once was. He can’t be. But if he can adapt his game, he can still contribute based on form an skill. His body might be another issue. His desire another issue again. Regardless, it has been another epic journey for our forward line.

Barry Hall was no slouch either (467 goals for us in 8 seasons).

Yeah, I considered Barry. But no 100s, no Coleman.

Ok, make room in the Pantheon for one more

Whereas number 2 and number 5 on the list for aggregate goals (Michael O'Loughlin and Adam Goodes) weren't recognised as full forwards.

Hall, O'Loughlin and Goodes all playing in the same side. We were spoilt.
It's very hard to live in a studio apartment in San Jose with a man who's learning to play violin. That's what she told the police when she handed them the empty revolver.

If I had a time machine I'd go back and watch Pratt. I've spoken to old blokes who saw him and said he was a better mark than Capper!

Old timers reckon Laurie Nash was as good as Pratt. He played FF for Victoria when Pratt was injured and kicked 16 goals!

(When asked who was the best footballer he’d seen, Nash said he saw him in the mirror every morning when he shaved!)

Nash could play cricket too - his bowling was regarded as fast and hostile

Played the first half at CHF and kicked 2 goals, kicked 16 in the second half after being moved to full forward. The most amazing true legend in football.
We have them where we want them, everything is going according to plan!

The Great Laurie Nash by Ned Wallish is a fantastic read. Can’t believe that no one has written a biography on Bob Pratt Snr or Bob Skilton (though I believe Skilton doesn’t want one). A detailed account of Archie Croft would be another interesting read (essentially South’s equivalent of Sydney’s Edelsten).

I think Nash is also the only player to have played test cricket for Australia without playing a first class Sheffield Shield match. He played state cricket for Tassie but they didn’t play in the Sheffield Shield. When he moved to Victoria, the Victorian team wouldn’t select him. But the Australian selectors recognised his talent at district level and needed his aggression to counter the Poms at Bodyline.

    Something like that IIRC
