Its all a matter of opinion I would suggest - fair enough.
But in my day there was a cetain respect outo-matically given to octogenarians, oh well how times change.

The point about our reliance on Hall is a good one though - it makes our forward line rather fragile until we can get Davis, O'Loughlin and Schneider back.

Last year Hall accounted for 18% of our goals, O'Loughlin 13%, Schneider 9%, and Davis 9%.

This year Hall has 26% and the next highest are O'Loughlin 7%, O'Keefe 7% and Davis 6%. So we are still relying on 3 of last year's top 4 goalkickers, however 2 of them have missed a lot of the season. Shows we don't have too many others who can step up and kick goals.

It's hardly surprising then that we are 13th in total score kicked.

Hall's 26% is the second highest for the top goalkicker in the competition - only Carlton is more reliant on its leading goalkicker (Fevola 28%). Also, at 7%, our second-highest goalkicker is clearly the lowest in the comp.

Anything over low 20% is an unhealthy reliance unless your total goal output is high.

These last figures Hall 26% and O'loughlin 7 % is the most worrying IE, the great differance between our heighest goal scorer (hall 26%) to our 2and heighest (oloughlan 13 %).

Nick, you don't think that's explained by O'Loughlin, Davis and Schneider missing a lot of games through injury?

What you've essentially said is that our forward line has struggled to cope with missing half its number. In addition, part timers Nicks, Saddington and Buchanan have also missed significant chunks of the year. Hall has shouldered some, but far from all, of that burden.

Is that at all surprising?

I tend to agree. Of our permanent forwards, Hall and O'Keefe are the only ones to have played every game of the year. O'Keefe generally likes to lead well up the ground as the first receiver when we rebound the ball from our D50, so that means we wont see him kick as many goals. When you have a target as big as Barry Hall, who happens to lead the league in contested marks, its no surprise he has kicked a huge bulk of our goals.

However, footyhead and NMW make valid points as well. If we only had Bazza for the first 3 quarters against Carlton, we would be 7-7 right now. Over-reliance on a single player (ala Richmond) is not a trend I want to see develop in our team.

No, but it also suggests "we don't have too many others who can step up and kick goals."
