I thought I would start a thread about good footy books to read during the off-seaon.

I'm reading the Gary Ablett book "Playing God" by Garry Lindell

Most footy books these days are offical biogs written with the player's help or at least approval. Not this one and that what makes it such a good read

Ablett was before my time - he retired before I started following AFL but even in Rubgy League Land his antics got a bit of coverage so I knew about his reputation

Lindell does more than review him as a player ; he loks at him as a man.his childhood , early playing days and becoming the superstar

and the religion bit . Seems to me the religion was all part of his whole problem of self esteem and insecurity

Havent finished the book yet but recommend it to anyone

Has anyone else read the book or another footy book theyd like to recommend
