    From Ugg's Twitter -
    White dominating completely
Let's hope that transfers into actual games this year.

Rohan should be playing for red.
The man who laughs has not yet heard the terrible news

Just arrived home. Saw the first 2 quarters and half of the 3rd quarter.

    Some observations:

    • Craig Bolton, Kieran Jack, Shane Mumford, Nick Smith, Dan Hannebery running laps during most of the game. All look superfit, especially Mummy who was sculpted by Michelangelo.
    • Stuart Dew was kicking a footy with Stuart Maxfield - he's still an unbelievable kick.
    • Best players included: TDL (4 goals I think), Adam Goodes (playing midfield and floating into forward line), Jarrad McVeigh, Gary Rohan and Josh Kennedy.
    • Gary Rohan was playing as a rebounding defender and did some good things - I like him in that position.
    • Andrejs Everitt did some good things playing as a half back flank.
    • Nick Malceski looked good, but playing much deeper in defence as a rebounder than I expected.
    • Many players looked rusty including Mark Seaby, Jude Bolton, Ben McGlynn and Rhyce Shaw.
    • It was bloody hot and they had drinks breaks 10 mins into every quarter.
    • There was a lot of talk and the team/s were in good spirit.
    • I spent most of the game talking to the brother of a recent recruit - he told me that his brother (Mr X) said we have a much better culture than the club from which he left, and Mr X was loving life in Sydney.
    • Overall, I left with a positive impression.

    Hope you found this interesting.

Yeah. Jesse didn't play. He was running laps with Kieren. Other notables missing included ROK, Smiffy, Hanners, Mummy and B2 (unsurprisingly).

Pretty scrappy affair really. Red team pressured well but were well outclassed in personnel, notwithstanding some jumper swapping as the game progressed. Most notably, Goodesy defected to the red team half way through the 2nd third. It could have been in pique, as it happened shortly after TDL floated across in front of him to take a mark that had Goodes' name written all over it and then proceeded to kick his 75th goal of the term. But it might also have been just for match-ups - Goodes went head to head with JPK in the middle after that.

Hard to pick out any stand-outs given the nature of the affair - other than TDL's goal hogging in the middle term. Macca was busy and relatively classy (and vocal when other players stuffed up). Jets and Rohan both showed their pace at times, to good effect, and Rohan in particular showed clean skills picking up the ball off the deck while running at full tilt. Joey got his hands on the ball a lot in the middle. Lewis Johnston showed some good second and third efforts.

Was like an instant replay of last year's game. I had TDL down for 5 (same as last year) & like last year the old timers Goodes, Mal & McVeigh were the other stand-outs. Of the youngsters, Rohan was outstanding off a HBF, some great tackling from Jetta (the tackling generally was of the highest order), Parker looked good early, and Johnstone did some good things.

No noticeable change to the game plan that I observed - still crap at getting the ball out of defence after a behind, still too much sideways, still too many "kick & hopes" to the forwards - but it's early days yet I guess...

And agree, RM, Mummy looked in magnificent nick. Great to see B2 running well, now more hopeful we'll see him some time this year. OTOH, Braddles was spectating behind the goals - maybe there's something in his contract about training when it gets above 28 degrees!

Just got back. Player by player summary:

    1. Seaby - Solid, not spectacular. Hasn't played footy in a while, touch rusty, but I wouldn't think it's anything to worry about. Seabs, Currie and Pyke all spent some time up forward as well.

    2. Shaw - Played mostly on the wing from what I could tell. Started horribly, redeemed himself later on with some good play, a goal or two, and some very good tackles. Saw both Shaws today.

    3. McVeigh - Quite good. Played inside and outside, won some good ball. Hands were a bit rusty at times but signs were promising.

    4. Hanners - Didn't play. Still recovering from shoulder surgery, but looked immensely fit and strong, and took part in the warm-up. Expecting good things.

    5. ROK - Also didn't play. Had a bandage on his elbow (can't remember if it was his left or right, now that I think about it), but I think the main problem was his groin. Ran laps, then went off and did some specialist work with some cones, just getting him moving rapidly from side to side, forward and back, very much testing the groin. He looked like he was passing with flying colours, so I guess he's recovering well from the surgery, just not quite ready yet. He did take part in the warm-up though, so he can't be far off.

    6. C.Bolton - Ran laps. Looked to be going about 90%, though didn't see him doing any sideways stuff. Tough to tell how far off he is, but from what I could tell he doesn't look too far off.

    7. Brett Meredith - Looked comfortable out there, won some ball, did some good stuff. Still undecided about him. Definite class but winning enough of it is the question.

    8. TDL - BOG. 6 goals, found space where there was no space to be found, and also kicked some great opportunistic goals.

    9. Malceski - Very good, used the ball well. Pretty much what we expect.

    10. Currie - Meh. I keep wanting to be impressed by him, but he just doesn't look like a senior footballer.

    11. Lamb - Quite impressed. Kicked a very smart goal to open the scoring, did some nice things, looked alright out there. Could well play seniors at some point.

    12. Kennedy - Worked his way into it after a slow start. Might have trimmed down a bit. Parker did a very good job on him, probably broke even, which is a great effort for the new kid.

    13. Everitt - No complaints. Played in defence, drifted up forward for a couple of running shots on goal (which missed, but he showed some nous). Played key defence at times, notably on LJ and Seaby, played loose at other times, and played small as well (looked like he was matched up on Krueger for a short period, for example).

    14. Bird - Looked fit as a fiddle in the warm-up, but didn't take the field for the game, nor did he run laps (might have been doing sprints or something somewhere else). Not sure what the deal is there.

    15. Jack - Ran laps. Looks fit and strong. Couldn't tell you why he didn't play though.

    16. Rohan - Has put on some muscle. Geeze, his hands were good. A couple of times he was running full pace at the ball and just picked it up off the ground without breaking stride. Also had some brilliant quick pick-ups and dish-offs. Didn't see much of his speed with ball in hand, but that was OK. Looked very good, could/should play all season.

    17. Kennelly - Ran laps. I meant it when I said he runs like a girl. Arms held up like a T-Rex. Couldn't help a giggle. Barlow ran the same way.

    18. White - Ran laps. Noticeably slimmer, looks fitter as well. Less of a giant, more of an athlete now. Body looks more like Goodes than Lockett now.

    19. Bradshaw - Not seen.

    20. Reid - Has bulked up, another preseason or two and he'll be a monster. Physically, looks absolutely ready for senior football, but he was just running laps. Took part in the warm-up though.

    21. McGlynn - Mixed bag. Looked fit, found a bit of it, but he was well off the boil. Missed a couple of shots on goal badly, missed a few targets around the field. Looked very rusty.

    22. Sumner - Not seen.

    23. Johnston - Looked pretty good. He's not going to be a power forward by the look of things, but he's a smart player, good skills, and he held his own in the physical contests. Not bad. Should play some seniors, barring a dream injury run for our forwards, but will play as a flanker, not a key forward.

    24. J.Bolton - Pretty solid. No complaints.

    25. Richards - Played on Johnston most of the time. Did well. Not too much to say, really.

    26. Parker - OMFG I LOVE HIM! OK, a bit excited, but the kid can play. Doesn't have a freakishness about him that some players have, but he found the ball, he used it well, and he's STRONG. He rag-dolled Josh Kennedy! Won a HTB for his troubles as well. He was matched up on JPK, who he played on all day, and I'd say he broke even, which as I said before is a great effort. Genuine Rd 1 chance, depending on injuries. Plays a bit like ROK (midfield version). Definitely on the bandwagon now.

    27. Spangher - Ran laps. Pretty big unit, looks fantastic, but of course, looks can be deceiving!

    28. McNeil - Dil was great. Played midfield, won a fair bit of ball in close, and held his own despite his small stature. He's bulked up, but still has a turn of pace, and he's clever. Chance for an elevation and debut this year, definitely.

    29. Mattner - Took me until the last "third" to realise he was playing. But then, he was playing deep defence, so that's probably a good thing.

    30. LRT - Ran laps, mainly with Max Otten trailing behind (mentor role?). Looked his big, goofy self.

    31.

    32. Jetta - Didn't have a great day. Found a bit of it, did some nice stuff, but just looked hesitant. Didn't look hungry at all. He has bulked up a bit though.

    33. Moore - Didn't notice him much, but when I did, he was always doing something good. I guess that's just the way with Moore. It will always be quality over quantity, but there'll come a point where he needs to step up and get more involved.

    34. Johnson - Didn't notice him much, but he spent some time on Goodes, and Goodesy didn't tear him apart, so he can't have been doing too badly.

    35. Heath - Walking freely, didn't do any running though. Still has an impressive rig.

    36. McKaigue - Looked pretty good out there. Played deep defence. Raking left boot. Also turning into a fairly solid unit. Chance for seniors this year, though I'd say it's unlikely.

    37. Goodes - Looked pretty good. Clean hands, hit targets, very very solid. Clearly sitting in a low gear though.

    38. Pyke - Good in the ruck, somewhat anonymous up forward (though he did bring the ball to ground a few times for the crummers, which was good to see). Better ruck option that Currie, definitely.

    39. Grundy - Solid, used the ball well when he had it. No complaints.

    40. Smith - Took part in the warm-up but ran laps during the game. Looked fit.

    41. Mumford - Probably a bit too heavy at the moment (probably due to being unable to run for so long). Didn't take part in the game.

    42. Bevan - Didn't make any shockers that I noticed. Played a pretty solid game.

    43. Krueger - Like the look of him. Tough, has some genuine toe, and taller than I thought he was. Skills are below standard, but he's a relative newcomer to the game, it'll come. Could be a player.

    44. Otten - Ran laps. Looks a good size, could end up a genuine KPD.

    45. Gordon - Yeah, he's alright, he's a real goer and looked alright with ball in hand, but TDL tore him apart. Just don't see him as a senior player. Would love to be proved wrong though, as he's got a great work ethic.

    46. Ben Haren - Didn't play. Ran laps for a while, and looked OK in the warm up.

Top-ups - There was a skinny red-head (not Haren) who competed OK. Whoever wore number 4 for the reds looked classy as well, and did some good stuff (might have been Potter, not sure).
Officially on the Reid and Sumner bandwagon!

My Indian club sessions build strong shoulders!!

Lads, including Brady, Kezza, Tadhg, Hanners, Mummy, Pebs et al were all feeling good and managing their SAQ and laps drill with relative ease.
