I thought Johnson was a disgrace and cringed to think he was the captain. Thank heavens Mcleod had some dignity to restore some face for the Aussies. It was like watching the antics of a group of high school footy players and I could barely watch.
I usually love these games and especially so as we have become more skilled at kicking the round ball, but last night the Aussies gave the anti IR faction enough ammunition to stop it dead in the water. I was embarrassed to be barracking for the Australian team. The commentators need to get over the desire for biffo and emphasise the skills.
Once again the aboriginal players except for Johnson were a delight to watch for their spatial awareness and skills.

I liked the game because it was fast and smooth. I really enjoyed it. I was actually the opposite. Apart from Johnson going completely psycho, the Australians were quite well restrained. Every time a bit of push and shove was shown it was started by an Irish player who then fell to the ground holding his face - and usually kicking. The only real punches I saw thrown were from Hodge and quite frankly, the guy he was hitting was asking for it - Hodge was claiming he was kicked and then the guy kicked him in the nads - that wasn't the only time either. I think I saw at least 3 Australians kicked by the opposition.
A prime example of what seemed to be happening was the incident with Milburn (that the commentators blew out of proportion). It was started by an Irish player looking to "draw a line in the sand" with a bit of pushing - he was then thrown to ground like a rag doll with his hands over his face.
I hate to sound all macho because it's really not me but the Irish really let themselves down. They were happy to go for the jumper punch but then went looking for somehere to hide when an Aussie retaliated or, heaven fobid, they had to put their body on the line to get the ball.
Overall, I think that the only thing that will kill off this "sport" is things like the Irish obviously putting in an umpire who was happy to cheat. They did it in Ireland last year and did it again last night. That makes the games more of a farce than a bit of rough stuff. Interesting that in the Hodge incident Croad was given a yellow card by the Irish ump whilst he ignored the kicking.

They don't handle vigour well. Davis laid a ferocious but legal tackle. The Irish ref penalised him for it which cost the Aussiegoal. I thought Johnson was a thug though and his actions were uncalled for. ROK played very well, Buchanan was all right as well, Davis showed excellent pace and skills in the 2nd 1/4 but forwards were redundant for much of the night. The crowd of 45,000 was an endorsement for this hybrid game.LIFE GOES ONComment

Johnson's actions were pure thuggery, and he should be dealt with accordingly, I just hope they put the Irish umpire up next to him for impersonating an umpire

Johnson was alright. You bandwagon guys are showing you lack of appreciation of Aussie rules tradition. Besides, I don't recall much crit. of Bazza's Grand Final beheadings on RWO? Hmmm? Smacks of hypocrisy.
BTW: What was with the Irish player who, when physically challenged lay on the ground in the fetal position and covered his eyes? Wow. That was embarrassing. Talk about letting yourself be bullied.
I enjoyed the rough and tumble of the first half and the good football in the third quarter. Forget Uruguay, the visit to Ireland should be HOT! HOT! HOT!
