Maxfield to play on

[Benevolent Ert]

Where are the newshounds today?

Maxy flags his intention to play in in 2006 in this Herald-Sun article

http://www.heraldsun.news.com.au/foo...E19742,00.html

[swansrule100]

probably wont be his decision in the end, least he said he wont stand in the way of youngsters

[liz]

What this does imply is that Maxfield is currently feeling fit and raring to go right now - and that has to be a good thing.

[swansrule100]

true, but i dont read many articles where the captain of an afl team feel unfit and doubts he can play well anymore.

No artocles on Buckley at the moment!!!!

It is good incentive for the other younger players. It means there won't be a position available for them next year. They will have to earn their spot alongside Maxfield.

Is this a good thing or bad thing?

Can Stewie lead / take us the next step towards a premiership?

Is it a time to lead, follow and get out of the way?

For Mine - If he is still fit and good enough - yes! however (there is always a however) I feel that a 30+ year old should make these comments at the end of the year to see if his heart and body are still in it?

[swansrule100]

then announcing the swans next 72 year rebuiliding plan

[The Undertaker]

I hope Maxfield can play on for another year.

But i tend to agree with what someone said before,
the decision might not be his.

He is a great player and a real quiet achiever too.I wish him all the best in season 2005.

"I was reasonably happy with the season I had last year and my body is holding up well. But, once again, it all depends on how I go this year."

I dont see why he has to wait til the end of the year. If his form is solid and he still provides something the team needs, then he should play for as many years as he wants. He's obviously confident and optimistic about how his body is holding up and his comments prove that his heart is still in it.
