We should loan all of our first year draftees to (say) Port Melbourne for a full whole year. With a coaching staff based in Melbourne to look after them. Our policy of not playing them first year means it will not hurt us at all. Playing with Port Melbourne full time would ensure some continuity in their development in a better environment with the Canberra league atm.

Why AFL doesn't do what FIFA is doing allowing second divisions to develop young players? There would be no need to have a "Reserves competition". What the heck is this all about? If AFL is to survive beyond being some local australian competition, they should go about creating a second division where new young players should be recruited. I never understood this concept of reserves anyway.

Yes, I am sure Vogels didn't learn anything in the Hampden league...I reckon most teams in that league would be more competitve than the ACTAFL.

There is this Doof Doof kind of nightclub at the Coventry End of the ground. You step out from your seat into this totally different world. It is very strange.

There definitely Is something to be said for football played under a roof in Melbourne in winter!

This doesn't solve the cost problem, but it has a few other advantages.
- In 17-18 weeks of the year, the seniors and reserves are in the same city, so we won't have emergency listed players missing out on playing a game because they can't be in two cities at once.
- Having the youngsters going to Melbourne with the seniors would be team-building, to a certain extent. They'd experience that facet of football earlier than they otherwise would.
- Playing in NSW obviously halves the number of trips we'd have to make.

Now that's a good idea, Charlie. It would solve our playing problem and all it needs is cash.....which the AFL would stump for, surely. Especially if we can get the 2nds to Sandringham and St. Kilda both playing in Sydney on the same day, for example.

This does happen already. On the same week that Collingwood plays Richmond, for instance, Williamstown will usually be playing Coburg.

Love it. Even better is the '4 or 5 divisions in an Australia-wide comp' idea, incorporating WAFL, SANFL etc teams, complete w/ promotions and demotions! Come on, who wouldn't love the idea of Carlton and Collingwood spending some time in Division 2? Of course, with the AFL's current megalomaniac mindset that would not so much be pigs flying, as Heath James getting delisted and redrafted 6 more times.

Unless Demetriou sat hard on the VFL (not to mention the Victorian AFL clubs allied with the VFL clubs) they would never agree to anything that involved coming to Sydney to play. And why would he? He's not exactly in the mood for doing us favours.
