Pekay seemed to be oblivious to the fact that Waverley is going to be used for football .
On reflection , it actually has something to do with NEAFL .
If you don't have promotion/relegation there will be a tendancy for superclubs to develop .
Waverley is a fantastic location and with the new facilities it is a fantastic opportunity to showcase football and draw local support .
A great location for a superclub .

Wouldn't that suggest that I know Waverley is being utilised? Considering we were scheduled to play there at 10am and got word it was shut @ 0715 Saturday morning.......

Cos, the article you quoted is a few months old. We've had a couple of games there already - I did an article on one of them, complete with pics; which in the background will give you a bit of a look at the construction of the new grandstand.

Thanks for that .Missed it with my google searches .I used to walk past that oval many times and think wouldn't that be fantastic for football if "we" played there .Don't know much about the SFL at all these days .i was surprised to see that UTS is playing there .Spiritually i would have thought it would be the home of ES ,but obviously they have a new alignment and UTS play out of Trumper ,their old home .The history is quite ironic .The vote for formation of the NSWFL was taken at Paddington town hall and foundation member ES played out of Trumper .Rugby rallied around Waverley oval at the time but obviously moved onto more developed premises .
Relevance to the NEAFL ? Good ,prominent facilities would be part of the equation IMO along with the usual suspects .

This weekend will mark a milestone with the UTS Bats to play at Bondi?s landmark, Waverley Oval for the first time.

The two matches played there will be one of at least two occasions this season the Bats will bring AFL to the beachside community.

It is part of a grand plan that Bats? president, John Colbert hopes will translate into future success.................

Courtesy of funding from government, AFL will benefit from a $9 million redevelopment that will incorporate a new grandstand, changeroom facilities and community centre, including a function area capable of catering up to 200 people.

Agree 100% with Pekay. Its all well and good to shoot off about sides joining PD but we need to look at locations. My worry is with these two sides joining the NEAFL is that the PD clubs will be raped in regards to top quality players. I have a feeling the standard of PD will drop quickly once Syd Uni and East Coast pick the eyes out of the emerging players in the competition.

Regardless, of the three obvious contenders listed above, Mac Uni would get the nod over the other two... Power would have to relocate to a better ground, and I'm sure Cartman would agree, so the league need to go into bat with local council for that. Warath @ Loftus would be too small for memory, some of the big ticket cricket grounds would be the key.. If they can get footy on Waverley, anything can happen.

But for mine, Mac Uni would be the natural progressor at the moment.

Im easy as mate i was just curious as to why circumstances like that would matter. From all reports at Power the move to Waratah has the go ahead for next year with the new amenities block being built over the off season. In regards to size i'd say it would be bigger than the likes of Bruce Purser (and certainly trumper) from memory.

It's gonna be interesting to see what actually does happen in regards to the structure of PD over the next couple of years

If you have a team in the NEAFL you would have a team in P.D. given that you are going to have players going back and forth between the two grades and going back 2 divisions to fight for a spot back in a NEAFL team would prove difficult given the gap.

The question of Promotion to the PD comp is more than just results though - The Sydney AFL By Laws state several items that need to be met before gaining any position in the Premier Division.

I would think especially Sydney Uni could maintain a competitive side in the PD and play in the NEAFL. If East Coast pick up some players for the NEAFL (Which I'm sure they will) they two would be competitive in the PD.

I'd be more interested in regards to rules about finals eligibility of NEAFL players in the SYdney comp????

The old guard of PD clubs are very protective of things. Best not upset them.

Manly would be too close to Shore, same as Power to St George I'd reckon, although there are clubs just as close through the divisions. Mac Uni could be the smokey if that be the case, have the facilities, resources, etc..

How are these clubs going to be able to afford to play NEAFL and run their existing clubs effectively? ... if they keep a PD side, they are effectively adding the NEAFL "Team" to their current structure, and it will be separate and will rarely play at the same venue as the rest of their club, will require it's own coaches/management, hangers-on, etc, all a big strain on resources, apart from the travel ........?
