NEAFL x 2 initiations?

Things change though.... I am sure the clubs invited (initiated) had some input when they put there submissions in. Also a club getting invited in doesnt necessarily have to lose any teams either???

I was of the understanding that originally when the NEAFL league was formed, that Syd AFL teams invited to that comp would not have a PD side in 2012.
Also that the PD was going to get back to 10 sides on a promotion/relegrtion system.

Leaves Manly, Mac Uni and Power to fight out for a PD spot next year if that is still the case.

Manly would be too close to Shore, same as Power to St George I'd reckon, although there are clubs just as close through the divisions. Mac Uni could be the smokey if that be the case, have the facilities, resources, etc..

I think these are extraordinary circumstances though. As UTSBatsman said above, it will be a considerable step from Premier Division to NEAFL, let alone from Div 1 to NEAFL. I'm sure St George, Cambelltown or Balmain would testify that having their reserve grade side more than one division lower than their senior side is less than ideal, and this would only be magnified when going from NEAFL to Division One. The only sensible way to structure it is to maintain a Premier Division side at both of these clubs. As Student said above, the PD teams might not be quite as dominant as they currently are (or maybe they will be) but I'm sure they will still be competitive. Pulling out my crystal ball, I would imagine that the Sydney AFL would from this point on introduce promotion and relegation to Premier Division, if it so happens that ECE or SU really struggle in PD in 2012, there are provisions in place for them to drop down to Div 1 in 2013. But to give them the best chance at being competitive in NEAFL, for the first year at least they should without doubt have a PD side as well.

I would suggest SU will field a team in PD next year - Reserves will go up to fill the void. You would think that both clubs would have a reasonable influx of players and depth at each club would increase. Whilst they may not be as strong as they are in PD at the moment, this would change over the coming years.

Surely rather than assuming SU or EC are able to gain new players and therefore their reserves move up into Premier, we should have the same promotion relegation system as every other division. After all Manly, Southern Power and Mac uni are all ahead in div 1 at the halfway point of the season, and with the inclusion of UTS this year (despite lack of success) we could see a change in the look of Premier Division for the better

I would suggest SU will field a team in PD next year - Reserves will go up to fill the void. It would seem a little silly if they weren't able to have a PD side as well - big jump from Div 1 to Premier, let alone Div 1 to NEAFL. What would the reason be behind not allowing ECE and Syd Uni to step up?
