The problem for the Olds Park Scoreboard section is that they are looking into the blinding sun all afternoon....at least, I think that's the reason why their dumb comments are so inappropriate

There's a whole lot of reasons to like going to the Anzac fixture at Picken.......
First, we started our day with Magpie Burgers with the lot - skaterboi1973 was right in nominating this as a gourmet highlight of Sydney footy.
Yummy !!
Second was the Anzac ceremony which was a sensitive and thoughtful way to acknowledge the day. At a pretty setting like Picken, warm sunshine, good crowd, it was something to treasure.
Third was the quality of the footy that followed. Wests may be at the low end of the ladder as they have been on recent past Anzac days, but they always rise to the occasion and turn on exciting positive footy. Penno escaped with a win by 8 points or so but Wests have plenty of positive takeaway from the game. Robinson (#26) in the midfield impressed, as did Gordon (#30) in ruck and up forward and Zoppo (#29) up forward.
Over on the eastern flank, the local cheer squad was in full voice, giving it mercilessly to the visitors. But, couldn't believe my eyes, at game's end they collected all their rubbish into the Hilux to be taken home with them.

A great day at the footy and a shout-out to Wests for doing it all so well.

Over on the eastern flank, the local cheer squad was in full voice, giving it mercilessly to the visitors..

I hope Mr Mumme made sure they were being positive otherwise they deserve a chip.

The Bombers with their spread and run game style were always going to struggle against the big bodied bats on the small ground, the rain made it that much harder.

The Dragons were in charge early against UNSW/ES at Village Green, and their back six, led by Coenen, Wharton and Tomlinson were again outstanding, deflecting almost everything, and then providing run and creativity out of defence.

The ground was looking good, and not a major factor in the preceding game, except for the cricket square, which was a bit "gluggy".

However, a heavy downpour saturated the ground, turned the centre cricket pitch into a skating rink and the ball into a piece of soap, so the first half turned into a bit of a slog. Stevenson, Green and Merson were most effective in the hard grind, and ruckmen Martin and Anu worked tirelessly, the later as always, was notable for his enthusiasm the whole game.

Daniher, Lee and Robbie were doing well for the Dogs, and their well organised committed defence was effective in spoiling a lot of The Dragon's forward 50 entries.

Whilst the Dragons could only convert pressure into 6 majors in the first half, their defence was miserly, and they had only conceded 2 goals 1.

The game seemed to be losing some intensity in the 3rd quarter. With the Dogs working hard across the ground, they were able to answer the Dragons 4 goals with 2 of their own. The 8 goal lead that the Dragons held looked unlikely to blow out, and the game seemed to just be drifting along at times.

The final quarter was a revelation, and something that coach Mudge would have been looking for.

With the rain all but gone, and the wind improving ground conditions, the Dragons ball movement, hard running, linking and handling skills all returned, and they were ruthless in piling on 9 goals 5 to 1 goal 2. Lycakis, Guthrie, and the other mids were starting to find space out wide, and the tall timber up front, Donohue, Sain and Ryan took full advantage, with the visitors running out emphatic 99 point victors. The Dragons did not have a weak link, and special mention for Mathew Griffiths, another local junior who made a seamless transition to senior football.

This was the kind of scoreboard pressure they need to learn to apply when they have dominant periods against sides ... all of the best sides do it.

Saints won both at southern power today. very scrappy, very cold and very wet.

What were prems scores?

The first wet weather football for the season; and it brings out a different skill set and feel of the game.
UTS continue their unbeaten run, while North Shore were unable to replicate their giant-killing exploits of last week.

Were you at any games? What were your thoughts?

Many teams missing players for the long weekend? We recieved a forfeit in 19s div 2 and we are lucky because only 7 of our 22 in div 4 last week can play this week... Long weekend, people away, all our country/interstate boys gone home for the weekend, plus swans on at the same time.

Still managed to round up a 22, a few more blokes coming out of retirement!

This clash is so important for the Bats. To go to four wins and no losses would signal to the competition that the Bats are a seriously competitive team.

My general rule is that if you win your first 3 games in park footy you are almost assured of playing finals. Like you only need win 6 of your next 15 to get there.

But with all these girls in town I hope for their sake the UTS players can stay focussed. We know who to blame if they lose.
