Media speculation that Mark McVeigh may have his nose in front for the EFC coaching job. This has been heightened with the delaying of the announcement till next week, to avoid potential awarkwardness as we play EFC this week.

Caroline Wilson suggesting we'll release McVeigh immediately should he be successful, rather than seeing it out till end of the finals. I think this would be too disruptive to our finals campaign..

Hope McVeigh sees our year out if he is successful. (Lots of personal politics happening in the background at EFC with this appointment apparently).

Essendon used to be a highly respected club on and off field but they haven't recovered from the drug saga and are a bit if a basket case at the moment.

        Understatement of the century.

Carrying on from the posts in the List Management thread re Mark McVeigh role replacement from his EFC coach appointment.

We may also be losing Amon Buchanan at season's end, as Caroline Wilson had mentioned McVeigh will be sounding Amon out to be part of his coaching team.

So we might be 2 assistants down as we enter 2027.

We all know it's harder to attract assistants from interstate due to COL. Made even more challenging with GWS doing a clean out in their ranks and potentially competing against.

Do we know which area Mark was responsible for? Apart from Amon I’ve seen speculation in the media of Malceski possibly being sounded out as well.

Amon I can understand- obviously was a player for us but I assume would have known Mark longer than most of the other coaching group through GWS (and possibly through his brother as well).
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

I know Mal wants to pursue a coaching career and he has done an excellent job with the VFL team this year. Having only 12 months ago relocated his family from the Gold Coast I suspect that he would prefer to stay in Sydney at least in the medium term. He is well respected from within the club.

He looks the obvious choice to step into McVeigh's spot.

With Clarkson's sacking and talk Matthew Nicks will follow suite if Adelaide lose their final, it has the media linking Longmire and Goodwin as potential candidates.

On top of already losing McVeigh, this would be severe if we also lost Longmire and Goodwin, particularly in the current club climate. Hope it doesn't eventuate.

Edit': plus the possibility of Amon Buchanan following McVeigh to Essendon at season's end, as i'd posted earlier.

Caro reiterated on AS last night that Mark McVeigh will be approaching Amon Buchanan as he assembles his coaching panel. Cal Twomey repeated the same on FC.

After watching Amon go troppo at the final siren with the rest in the coaches box, he may now find it too hard to leave. He may even have his role elevated with McVeigh's departure.

Consensus is growing that Norf will go after an untried coach, which pleases me as it means Horse is more certain to stay put (for now).

Also with Nicks staying safe after the Crows win, Goodwin will not have the immediate temptation to return to his old club. Could change in 12 months as Nicks will be in his final year of contract.

On a side note, i hope we never exit a coach like North did with Clarkson, particularly with someone of his achievements (whether you like him or not).

I was flabbergasted when Hird said on FC last night, that Caro received same text as he did (6:30pm) about his potential meeting with EFC later this week.

Caro immediately ran with the story on AS, which aired before FC. Hird said hadn't even had time to think about the meeting request when Caro aired it. Looks like EFC still have leaky walls!

The one thing that all of this saga has highlighted is that we do have great people at the top. Both from a leadership perspective and football side.

I must admit, it gave me so much joy seeing the staff and coaches equally enjoy that win as much as the players. Amon, Simon Goodwin, Mal and Benny Matthews and ofcourse Dean, not to mention Leon Cameron have done a power of work. So naturally KSAS, we would like all that team to stick together. I hope they reap the rewards of their hard work.

Just goes to show it is the sum of all parts, not just a few.

Heard a snippet that EFC will also be approaching Malceski to join their coaching ranks, but that he is likely to stay..

It appears McVeigh is trying to entice some of his Swans mates over. Hope he doesn't try to do the same with our playing list, but i'm probably naive!
