Oakleigh got a few late, to make it a more respectable 84-44. But really, our pressure was better all day, our ball movement more adventurous and we never looked like losing.
Medved was really good in that quarter. He's often fun to watch, taking running bounces on extended runs out of defence, but he can let himself down with disposals that don't quite hit the mark. However, in that quarter, he spotted Pignatelli leading out of the goal square and Guy Jenkin finding space inside the 50, to set up a couple of goals. Although the highlight for me, was Beavis joining the attack on the wing, doing a nice one two and then putting through a running shot from around 50.
He had a strong game in defence, along with Norris and Morahan, who snuffed out most attacks that came their way. Small defender Redfern showed some nice rebounding skills, while McGroder and especially Medved, were keen to move the ball quickly.
The Jenkin twins were also involved in plenty of rebound chains. Lately, they've generally been playing Guy front half and Will back half, but today their instructions seemed to be, to just run wherever you want to go. So both provided plenty of outside dash. They usually use the ball well, often win contests and are determined in their harassment of the opposition. Chambers, Macri and especially Mok, all showed skills on the outside.
In the inside midfield, ruckman Clifton was possibly BOG. He got plenty of taps to advantage, moved around the ground well, took some strong marks and generally made life difficult for the opposition mids. Price also made life difficult for them, with some uncompromising in and under work. Smith was also hard at it, but probably needs to improve his disposal, or perhaps his acceleration, so he's disposing it under less pressure? Meaney and Meyrick also had decent games.
Pignatelli was probably our best forward. He got three goals, led well, took the odd mark and seems to have some football smarts. Luke didn't get that much of it today, but when he does, good things tend to happen.
One thing I'm now wondering, is; can we possibly play finals? That is, it's probably something that AFL, or whoever runs the Talent League, wouldn't have considered, since we only play half the season. But, I think that there's a ten team finals series. So, if we remain undefeated, it's possible that we sneak into 9th or 10th place. So, in that case, do we get to have a go, or do they say, "Oh I'm sorry, the finals were only ever really meant for Victorian teams."?
