I would just grab best available regardless of position, alot of examples where positions have been meaningless.

Tom Mc was a Fwd, Grundy,
Campbell a mid, Mills a mid

Matty Lloyd, HBF, The list goes on

Thinking any of these KPD would contribute as KPD in the next 3 yrs would be a stretch too, any of them doing what Snell just did in the Ressies would be a good outcome

I’m sure have a mid 20yr old value key defender in mind as a potential recruit from the delisted list or state football

Hamling came in from Freeo ressies
      Cootee the same SA comp
      Bice VIC

that’s unless Snell is more ready than we all think and or Riak

and or the club is comfortable with Melican and or Hamling getting game time in 2027 AFL footy

One player of interest for me, to replace a Rampe type role is https://www.geelongcats.com.au/playe...george-stevens

189cm tall but a very strong defender for his height and maybe weighs 95kg to 100kg.only 21yrs of age and has been in a very good system of development at Geelong for 3 seasons for only a handful years of games (just like Jai Serong).

sees himself like Mills ie defender midfield but he could be a good value signing that can play a specific role at 189cm medium tall defender like Rampe.

delisted by the Cats who want to pick him up again

So potentially 5 of our 2026 defensive line maybe missing for all of 2027 or some of the season like Edwards

        cunningham

        blakey

        mills most of 2027

        maybe Rampe if he retires

edwards (Fractured fibula and dislocated ankle) my guess given that this can be a 6month recover and given Edwards continual injuries last 4 seasons……he will be eased in at best

Also Mitch Knevitt 193cm mid / forward seriously reminds me of a Jai Serong or best and fairest in the VFL for Cats was Mitch. The played 20 afl games last few years and just looks like he could play that cut out HBF role as well as wing / HFF. Turned or turning 23 yrs old from a good system and value signing for a role.

also delisted from the cats and some good footage below.

I think that the general vibe around Stevens, is that he's a decent ball winner and has talent, but he's a bit too slow for the modern game. I'm not sure why Geelong delisted Knevitt, as he seems to have plenty of talent? Perhaps he's worth a late draft pick, if we have the list space? Might make more sense than taking a youngster, he's probably a bit hit or miss in that draft range.

In Callum Twomey's mock draft of the top 32 picks, he has us selecting Mitch Harris with pick 9 after forcing GWS to match our bid on Ethan Matthews with our pick 8. Fingers Crossed!
