Swans chat Selection for Round 24 v Norf.

Hard to know who the outs might be with the 'alleged incident' stuff going on......but it has become apparent that Justin McInerny has a fresh hamstring injury and has been ruled out for another 2-3 weeks.

Damn!! The season is potentially falling apart.

I'm not sure about the "potentially"?

But hey, we could get Rowbottom back.

If we won a premiership from here, it would be very hard to make it into a believable movie.

I would risk a $1 bet, but even that would be very optimistic!
Sad about Juzzy- these hammys are terrible, aren’t they?

With what’s happening at present, it really doesn’t matter who we play against Norf- we may as well bring in some kids as the game is irrelevant anyway. As for the finals, depending on the worst case scenario where the players are stood down, most likely we’ll go out in straight sets so I’m preparing myself accordingly.

sfinished for finals now. perhaps if only one of chad or issac would probably given us a chance but now 2025 gone for ever, not only in afl but in vfl as well (not sure we will have enough players to fill 2 sides)

To be fair lw 2025 is already gone for everyone.... :P

I know what you mean. I feel so sorry for the VFL team - while they've dropped off a bit in recent weeks, they've had a really solid season, and I was really hoping they could jag a finals win as well to recognise that. With 5 outs on top of a lot of missing players already, they are zero chance

Could be a good opportunity to try some things. I'd like to see Papley and Mills to get more midfield minutes

OUT: Bice, Heeney, Jordon, Blakey, Warner
IN: Cunningham, Rosas, Cleary, Rowbottom, Melican

I can see an argument for Sheldrick ahead of Cleary but I think Cleary has looked better in the ressies and Mills and Sheldrick could be a little bit too similar in their midfield role. Only reason I've bought back Rosas is that I'd like to see them trial Papley in the mids more.

I woulda dropped Green too to bring in McLean but I see McLean is off this week due to concussion protocols

Shame McInerney is still not available

I think the team that goes out on Sunday deserves the best chance to succeed and to be frank, play with a bit of fun and freedom.

There’d be a temptation to paper over the cracks and be strictly defensive in our set up. I think that’d be asking too much of the players mentally. We’re better off going hands on ball, and then run.

                    I’d do something like:

                    - Give Snell a debut as third tall, push Rampe into the Mills general role, and push Mills on ball to be a first hands player. Plus a debutant might bring a small amount of joy to the group.
                    - Recall Harry C into the lockdown defender role, and tell Wicks and Kyle to provide as much dash as they can off halfback, with Blakey and Bice out. Maybe even start Kyle on a wing.
                    - If Rowie is fit, pop him in the middle but no tagging. Get the ball and feed it out.
                    - If he’s not, play Rosas in the role had earlier in the year and send Dattoli into the mids for some polish.
                    - Give Cleary a go, full time in the mids
                    - From there, depending on Rowie’s health, obviously Gus or Warner come in. But no playing defensive forward crap. If they’re playing, play em as part of the midfield rotations.

None of this is perfect, but we need to take some pressure off the players and keep it simple. See ball, get ball, then go.

Our front line is fine but our goals would go down given the lack of Heeney and Warner scoring atleast 3 - 4 goals a game. and our backline is going to probably leak atleast 2 - 3 goals more a game given lack of easy exit from the backline with lack of creativity. How we replace the front half goals and stem the leak is the question

And the answer is just the middle. Fix the middle and if we can get that right somehow defensively atleast, we may create enough chances.

Is Ned Bowman and Patrick Snell any good. Maybe it is time to try one of them this week for the inconsequential game.
We have no option but to play Melican or Snell as third defensive tall and Push Rampe out of that role to the Mills role

Mills will have to move to the middle
Sheldrick and Rowbottom will have to be there.
So would Campbell who will have to be the creator and potentially replace Heeney and Warners goals somehow.
Caiden Cleary can be another person we should get in the middle.

I think Papley needs to play permanently forward and so should Dattoli But maybe the role of Corey Warner can be explored in the first final. I think we need goals from the small forwards and yes Papley can play some time in the middle but I would rather play him front and centre of a contest every time the ball goes in our forward half.

I would not play Corey Warner this game for what has happened to his brother.

It is bummer that Mcinerney got injured again.

I was feeling pretty awful for the last couple of days but I now have moved on from the digressions as I think the club has done a good job and we now need to focus on what we have rather than what we dont have.
