QF vs Brisbane at the SCG

Just saw a podcast clip from during the week where Michael Barlow tipped us to win, much to the derision of his panel members.

He prophesied to the panel how our game plan will change to contested one as a result of the missing 5.

He insisted to his disbelieving panel as they watch the game to pause the screen every few minutes to observe there will be more Swans players around the ball.

Truly prophetic as it turned out. Hope the MSM picks this up during the week.

Just watched some highlights and think I’ve settled on my fave play of the day, which was the lead up to Paps kicking his second goal in a minute in the third quarter.

Centre bounce after Paps’ prior goal. Neale nudges his way to the ball forward of the rucks and he is usually able to spit forward or at least release a handball to advantage. Nope. Serong nails him and has his arms, and whilst he’s able to send a pop handball to Lohmann, it is into a position where he has to run back and wide. Rowie then hunts him down, which he has no right to and nails him. Kyle scoops it up and sends it forward. The Lions mop up but are surrounded by numbers, fumble and Ainsworth goes backwards before Paps nails him. Each contest, the out number, hunt and hit forced them into dead ends and sent the ball our way effectively. Outstanding stuff.

I have been a SWAN supporter since 1946 , I lived just across the road from the south ground. I have to say I was bought to tears after watching the Match on TV. IT was one of the best win against all odds I have ever seen.I have never been so proud of my team as today.BEST ON GROUND,,,,,,,,, THE HOLE BLODDY TEAM !!!!!!!!!!

I thought I was one of the older members of RWO having been taken by my Dad to my first South Melbourne game in 1961 but I bow to your superior Bloods history!!

Since yesterday, I have communicated with many Swans loving family and friends and have even ventured over to Big Footy to guage the reaction to our win. Many people have said they cried and the one word that was brought up time and time again was - PRIDE!

Far from wrecking our club, the events of a few weeks ago seem to have galvanised us! We rusted on supporters will always love our club but importantly, our players, coaches, board and staff have raliied and come together as one and yesterday produced a win that we will never forget.

I loved how many times a Brisbane player thought that they'd escaped the clutches of one Swan, only to be nailed by the next arriving Swan.

Big shoutout to Hayden McLean. I was one of those who was disappointed that he was brought in to the team at Green’s expense. I have always liked him but felt his recent performances were just not good enough. But he was terrific today. More than justified the selector’s faith. I guess that’s why they’re the selectors and I’m not.

30 years ago i took my late dad to Sydney for Father's Day to watch us beat Hawthorn by 1 goal @ the SCG in QF. Good to see history itself repeat itself last night!

P.S. It was our first finals win since 1945 and Cressa marked & goaled at the death to win us the game. Treasured moments.

That was another win for the ages. Cressa plucked his grab over the much taller contested mark specialist Nick Holland if I recall correctly.

Michael Barlow, like Buddy as well who tipped us, are very good thinkers on the game. Barlow absolutely nailed the details of it however.
