Are we forgetting Bice ? Not sure where the team management thinks he is now that Blakey is gone. Maybe He will given a bigger role to play. Can
    Rampe do the Blakey role?

The game against North when the 5 were not playing, Gulden played slightly behind the middle and drifting in amongst the HBFs to set up play

very much like a Sam Mitchell role for the Hawks (which he did brilliantly.

gulden had 41 disposals that day with 27 by foot orchestrating our movement so efficiently and effectively. Similarly Gulden lead all disposals in the Brisbane EF with 34 disposals and remarkably 27 by foot. For me a slicing dealt low kick moves faster than any rebounding HBF player but it’s nice to have both.

When comparing who was around Sam Mitchell playing that slightly behind middle role, obviously he had Hodge and Silk on that HBF and between that 3 they certainly controlled the tempo of attack for many years at the Hawks.

Gulden likewise linking with a HBF rotation of McInerney, Lloyd, Kyle, Serong, Campbell, Robert’s, Bice etc is still a great collection of smart users of the footy along with an ever improving Wicks

when Mills returns lm Aug / Sept he slots back into the HB line as that Luke Hodge general role

Blakey is next level in his run and carry but for me seeing Gulden, McInerney and Lloyd leading that collective of ball users around the HBF area of the field is pretty impressive

I don’t think I have seen a better ball user than Errol

best ever in my opinion……his dominance by foot is better than anyone I have seen play AFL

Bice is ok good depth, struggles to defend if we can get by without him in the side probably means we are improving

Bice can improve quite a lot- he has the potential as he showed in his early games. His kicking accuracy to targets needs improvement but he seems very keen and I think he’s the one who could do what Blakey did. The fact that he is not being investigated by the police says something too, though of course that doesn’t reflect on his footballing ability!

Nevertheless I’m confident he can step up. At this stage I don’t see any other player taking over the role left vacant.

A few rumours going around that we're very keen on Mitch Harris. If true, I'd certainly like to see him still available at our pick. He's now generally rated as the best KPD of the draft, who attacks the ball hard, takes plenty of intercept marks, chases aggressively when the ball hits the ground and can stick a tackle.

A bit of analysis in this article, that suggests that we did very well in the Blakey trade.

We did ok in the Blakey trade. It became obvious that keeping him was not an option the club favoured, despite the 5/years left on his contract. So the picks we obtained seem pretty reasonable, given this scenario. We like a fair trade, where everyone involved feels ok with the deal, and this is as it should be. Blakey is a loss, no doubt about that, but if a player wants so desperately to leave then in reality there’s no point trying to keep him.

Thanks for the memories Lizard but you’ve left us on a sour note. The $$’s turned your head, and we can understand that as money talks and a footballer’s tenure is not that long. But did you really need to sook? The club has been good to you for a long time and then you spat the dummy and that’s really disappointing.

I wish I could say “all the best” but somehow I can’t………..

We have plenty down back but we must start with 3 tall defenders, the rest with ball use etc is alot easier than

Best available, regardless of position, we all remember Denver G Barass, he was so good they went out and recruited 2x KPD
