Haven't we tried that already ? he failed then and can't see it being any different now, he's a player who flashes in out of games and that's his lot, he adds most value as a Half forward where we get maximum impact from his moments - that's his lot his junior career he was flashing in out of games and one of his best games was in the futures game on GF day were he was best on ground playing as a Half forward (i really like him in that role(

It's rumoured that we're interested in Williams, via the new indigenous cat B spot. Which the AFL has introduced as a way of getting more indigenous players on lists. While I have trouble keeping up with all the new rules, I think that if we give Williams that spot, most of his salary, if not all, will be outside of our salary cap. So there's a certain amount of sense adding to our depth, in a position where we might need it, and where doing so doesn't really cost us anything. It’s to be see but are we somehow really interested in Zac Williams and Jake Stringer.
I would think both players would only be depth players for us and it would be frustrating if we go with them and any of them take chances away from the young brigade. Not sure what Zac would add. Jake is probably also past his best but could be a depth option given our lack of depth players at that end of the field.
Though personally, I'd prefer to see a young player given a chance. Specifically James O'Loughlin, who I thought did well in the VFL this season, playing much the same medium, half back flanker role. Although that might depend on how serious the injury that curtailed his season is?Comment

Williams could be a handy replacement in the short term before Mills returns late in the season and wouldn’t cost much.
Stringer would be a possible replacement for the Armartey role on the forward line. We do not have ready made replacements for either Curnow or McDonald in case of injury.
Both players would add depth.

Nik Cox has played about 60 AFL games
very tall mid forward
I wondered after coming back from concussion issues whether he may like Paddy shift to defence
very skilful tall and kicks off both feet very well
i wonder if we have our eyes on a defender key possie ? Or do we see Serong at 193cm going back more so in the absence of Mills and maybe Rampe ? Or do a Teddy Richards or Tom McCartin and redirect from their current role to becoming a defender ?
Zac Williams seems to be a smart fit for adding to our rebounding collective
so we have :
Pick6 North Blakey trade (we gave up 52)
Pick 38 was pick 32 for Amartey
Pick 39
Pick 47 from north
Pick 54
Pick 76
Pick 90Last edited by Auntie.Gerald; Yesterday, 09:28 AM."be tough, only when it gets tough"

Actually we have nurtured a fair few to different roles
Dane Rampe previous a midfielder
Ted Richards previous a winger
Paddy McCartin previous a FF
Tom McCartin previous a CHF / FF
Grundy was a junior key forward also"be tough, only when it gets tough"

draft drever if still available or Harris (def) then McGregor, Medved and Meeney. Upgrades also needed for Edwardes and maybe Hanily.with other Academy players due next year. Perhpas we could also down
grade Ladhams. Still waiting for Dane to say what he wants to do.

No to Cox. Soft as butter and low footy IQ. Maybe it’s the famed Essendon ‘development’ program, but he showed little bar some neat kicking skills.https://www.essendonfc.com.au/players/2844/nik-cox

As for Serong, leave him midfield or wing please. I think we need him in there to complement what the more offensive minded mids do. Also, and we only got glimpses of him playing pure defence, I thought it was when he looked least effective. He got beaten a few times on the lead, where I suspect he lacked explosive, off the mark pace or closing speed you sometimes need down back. Whereas around the ground, he’s got the strength and running power to counter any issues with that.
He went past JJ as a midfield tagger (though I think JJ can still have a role doing it to their best half back because he’s also a good ball user going inside 50 and kick for goal) and I reckon he’s got the two way game we need more of to be competitive in the midfield against the best sides. His closing sequence of games shows we will lose nothing playing him in the centre square at times. If anything, we will set up better and cover some of the weaknesses down back. Brisbane and for theee quarters, Freo, often lacked clean exits because he and Rowy did so much to halve contests.Comment

For me it’s a rotation of flankers / wing and when all the players come back what is the best fit vs each team we play
but only Serongs first full season of AFL ie 10 games at the Hawks
Teddy Richards didn’t look like a 193cm key defender prior to when he did
same height and build as Serong at same age
hr could be that chop out third tall of no Mills, Rampe nor Blakey"be tough, only when it gets tough"
