I think it's time to look to the futute. Kirk will probably only play another 2 seasons.

Goodesy is there for another 5 or 6. His second half of the year was out of this world.

You can't just pick a captain. The role picks the person.

Whenever I think about Goodes being captain, I think about his reaction to the 2006 GF loss. Kirk, under no circumstances would have reacted like that.

And consistancy. Goodes is a confidence player. That influence could create an inconsistant team.

The co-captaincy rotation was probably of benefit in 2006 but there can be little doubt who is the true leader of the club now.

Just like Kelly and Maxfield before him, Brett Kirk has established himself as a natural leader of the club. Kirk inspires through his actions and his teammates respond. Limited in skill but he never shirks a contest and tackles his guts out. He is also durable having played most games in recent seasons.

The other two captains have struggled the most with injury and the new rule interpretations. It can't be good for team morale to have two of the club's captains so down on form.

Barry Hall should be left to concentrate on his own form and temperament. His remonstrating with umpires can only have a negative effect on the side.

Leo Barry has given great service but his best is behind him and if he decides to play on it should not be as captain.

Extra responsibility should be given to Craig Bolton, Adam Goodes and Nick Malceski - a trio I hope the next Swans premiership will be built around.

I was actually just taking the piss, fishing for a reaction, but i'm just not sure if i can agree on making Goodes captain, maybe vice like someone else suggested, but don't give him the job all by himself. He's such a free spirit, almost as free as the hippie, but Goodes relies on the freedom aspect of his role, and not being shackled by the expectations of captaincy. No need to change it really. If anyone should be captain after Kirk, i say we go really young, like West Coast did with Cousins (not the best example at this point in time, but you get what i mean), so, the Eski perhaps? And if we go with someone experienced, why not B2?

That's why I reckon that Goodsey is like Prince Charles - poor piggy in the middle.

Seriously, I don't like the idea of picking a "forward" or "back" as captain. Alll we need is one captain from the midfield who has the ability to run forward and back and inspire from all over the field. Too many cooks spoil the broth.
